Catamaran aircraft carrier was ever proposed? IMO it would be very convinient.

Why there is no one yet?

Probably because, for any given size of ship, you reduce your overall hangar space by at least 1/3 & the width of your hangars by at least 50%. You would require fewer & smaller (thus less capable & shorter ranged) aircraft or a huge increase in the size of your carriers.

If you do go for a full-width hangar deck, then you have to compensate for the greater mass by making the hulls bigger;
 wider = more resistance reducing the speed or requiring larger engines;
 deeper = more (though significantly less than above) resistance but much deeper, (further) limiting the harbours available to you for shelter, repairs, etc.
"This is the Captain. We have a little problem with our engine sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and, ah, explode."

I would think that the choice of ports you could use would be drastically reduced too. And using the Suez or Panama would be a problem.

There have been some serious proposals but nothing came to fruition:

I stumbled across this article fromthe EurAsian Times the other day, which aludes to PLAN's Type 075 LHD having a long-curved ski jump added to its bow/flightdeck in a modular fashion.........

There's speculation as whether the photo is phtoshopped or not, but one thing is for certain, just like the Indian Navy's I wouldn't want to be ploughing into pacific sees with such a bow/ski-jump🤔

Text: In his 1973 M.Phil. thesis, LCdr. D.R. Taylor RN proposed use of ski-jump to aid Harrier. His ski-jump design, which featured curve, initially met skepticism, but others endorsed proposal. Initial testing used various ramp angles carried out at RAE Bedford; using two-seat Harrier

The USNS Card (T-AKV 40) was a WW2 Bogue-Class escort carrier reactivated on 16 May 1958 to serve as an aircraft transport boat. It was kept busy during the Vietnam War. Here carrying seventeen suitably cocooned USAF F-102s.
The Card gained some unwanted publicity when it was sunk in the port of Saigon on 2 May 1964 by two commando frogmen from the Vietcong 65th Special Operations Group. Refloated later, it was repaired, and returned to service at the end of that same year.

Recently I've been toying with the idea of jet-capable ships based on RP1's drawing and the attachment at bottom.

Excerpt from RP1's note on her drawing:
Quote
I think that, if room is left for workshops (i.e. the aircraft can be supported, not just operated), then it is possible to fit 5 * 583V and 1 * Sea King in the hangar, or 5 * Sea Harrier in the hangar, or  6 * VJ-101 in the hangar.  In the latter two the SK would have to stay on deck...... some shuffling would be needed to maintain operations......

I thus took the aft half of Chakri Naruebet as a starting point, but with Yak-141 in mind:

The starting size is about 134.5 ft x 78 ft (excluding the elevator).  It will be enlarged as I wish to incorporate at least one helicopter into the accommodation rather than keeping it on the flight deck.  Due to my lack of imaginations, though, I have two questions:

1. How much of extra space should I set aside for workshops?  The scope of flight operations for the fighters is confined to going after maritime patrol aircraft.

2. Do you see aircraft-shuffling doable (since, as with RP1 regarding her drawing, there is only one elevator and the Yak-141 fortunately has folding wings)?

Thanks in advance.
Forget about his bow and arrows- why wait until that sparrow has done his deed when I can just bury him right now 'cause I'm sick and tired of hearing why he wants to have his way with the cock robin!?

Interesting article:  Aircraft Carriers With Rubber Decks Were A Bad Idea

Mind you, can you imagine the whiff possibilities if it went ahead in a major way - F-4s, F-14s etc belly landings...
