Hotrod Headhunter
« on: February 21, 2012, 11:45:28 PM »
So I have never been a big fan of the Expanded Universe of Star Wars having read only 2 of the books. The first one I ever read was "Han Solo at Stars End" in it Han flies an old Z-95 Headhunter fighter. The craft is described as a twin engined ,swing wing ,fork tailed craft with a distinctive bubble canopy. It also has 6 guns.
If you look up Z-95 Headhunter mostly what you get is images of a craft that looks like a single wing ,2 gun X wing. ???

Recently the most excellent model maker Alfred Wong has mastered a (sort of ) proper looking Headhunter in 1/48 but who has 75 bucks to drop on a garage kit.  :o

Well I have always wanted to do my version of the Headhunter but I have been holding out for one of the big X wing models to base use as a base. I finally scored one at the show this weekend and this is one of those projects that takes precedence over everything else  >:D SO HERE

Hey now :-[ I just started  :-\ Maybe it will suck ::) ;)
By the way to whoever sent me the 1/72 F-111  ??? :-[ Many thanks :-*
Yes those are podracer engines :-* :-* :-*
Please also note that I have extended the sensor suite >:D
Right now I am working on a custom cockpit ( thank you Moebius Vipers) I have to be really careful at this point cause the canopy has to be puttied in before I join the fuselage halves together :-\

Mastery of plastery, this is....

Some aspects of these ships look like some of the original concept drawings for the first film, where the craft used more bubble tops and cruder paint. as I remember, those bubble tops were discarded because they were very unfriendly to the blue-screen image compositing methods of the day and instead everything was box-frames and flat panes until the three prequels were made and CGI was the new standard. Same for the paint, with wilder schemes going to grays which worked better for the optical printing.

If you dont have podracer engines, the 1/48 scale GO-229 kit from dragon models has two engines that have the same detail level as these pod racer parts.

Hey thanks B :-* Here is yesterdays progress
I gave her better looking missile ports

Installed the canopy

Put some leading edge slats on the wings

Found some better intake rams for the engines

I rebuilt the tail so the stabs slant down

And I mocked up the rear of the ship with (possible ) hyperdrive

(pretty much) finished up the detailing on the lower hyperdrive

Possible (probable) final engine config

Ron, wouldn't it be easier just to start your build with the putty then add plastic bits later?  >:D   :P   ;)   ;D
Looks like a lot of work but I sure can't argue with the results you get.  :)  lookin good!

Pretty much :-[ Believe it or don't I just spent my waiting on putty to dry time reading a 20 page post (on some other site) on how incorrect someone else's interpetation of this (really briefly described) ship was though :o
I am such a geek ;)
I must frankly admit that this is one of those " I always knew I could build a better version of that" ::) ??? :-\
If I had another 1/32 X -wing I would do another version based on the depictions in the "canon" publications :icon_fsm:

Man I wish I had the putty concession in your neighborhood, Ron! It'd be like a license to print money!

What just floors me is how flawless everything looks by the time you paint it!

Love the mods, especially the engines!

Thanks very much my brother :-* Creativity is so varied between the folk we know. This site is such a relaxing place for all of us to be. You create beautiful things such as airships and biplanes with spats and I make weird arsed spaceships and funny tanks with 4 tracks but we inspire each other ??? :-\ :-* >:D :icon_alabanza: :icon_fsm:
