Me 646 Hummingbird Reconnaissance Version
« on: February 18, 2012, 08:36:52 AM »
Folks:

Here is my PM Me P.1111 productized as the Me 646 Kolibri Red 10 Aufklärung.

I started with the base Me P.1111, added the RB **/30 camera in an modified fuel tank. Due to the larger wheels (modified Me 262) used to support landings in forward strips, drop tanks were used to compensate for the loss of internal tankage.

It is a tail sitter so I used an official RLM 1/4" nut as a support.

Other than the canopy, fuselage and tail, the kit is blah. The Me 262 bits saved the day.

I used the landing gear, tanks from a Revell Me262. Camera is from a DML AR-234C. Eduard pre-painted seatbelts. Paint is Tamiya spray bombs. Decals are from the Me 262, black strips and an Aeromaster FW-190 sheet.

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Is one of those looks fast standing still designs.  Has a bit of Skyray flavor to it.
Good build  -  is more fine model workmanship   :)

Somehow, it looks like a peaceful racer, no? Maybe Hitler would have committed suicide 10 years before 1945, and Germany would have been a peaceful competitor in Reno air race 1944?

I had not thought of it that way.

Since I broke RLM protocol by painting the A/C only in one colour, Lichtblau, I decided to add a second trim colour. Then I had to hide the mistakes from that with the black stripe. So in reality the paint scheme evolved with the final purpose to cover up my errors.

That is which is wonderful in unrealistic modelling: technical issues direct to some practical choices then the dreamy mind imagine reasons for that way at scale 1... Funny, thanks! :D

You noticed that too. Also look at the Northrop Bantam as well. This might be why Luft 46' is as popular as it is / has been....A lot of those planes were built in the 20 years following the reich, but built in the USA, UK and the USSR.

That's a killer paintjob, Carl! I can just see this baby streaking over the front lines to get the vital pics that will stop the allied attack.

I'm impressed you've got an actual RLM 1/4" nut. Those relics are mighty scarce and the prices they go for are ridiculous.

Excellent work!

Very pretty! PM kits get slammed a lot, but I like 'em fine. They remind me of the old Lindberg kits
of the He 100, Me 163, He 162, which were darn near the only Luft '46 kits out there for years...

This may even inspire me to finally get mine built some time this year. ;)
