You let Sheilas play with big guns like that?   :o

I assume the shields were extra protection against blast, rather than intended for crew protection against splinters?  They don't look large enough for that.

Yep, we've had women fully integrated in the combat arms for nearly 3 decades. They are still a minority, there were only 2 in my troop of 35.

I think the shields are for small arms fire when doing direct-fire (or open action) engagements.

Thirty years?! Boy, do I feel backwards.

Ahem. A little surprised ( though it occurs to me that 'Development' may imply a more modern
slant to the topic - ) that no-one has mentioned a terrific tank that never got a chance to really
 strut- the Sentinel.

Shown here, the lone AC IV with the 17 pounder, I think. The wikipedia entry provided a
minor factoid - a handful of Sentinels were dressed up as German tanks for a movie called
 Rats of Tobruk

 wikipedia article

SonofaDingo! The whole movie is available on Youtube!

It's juvenile, but it made me chuckle:

Oh, Australia...  ;D

Here are the full videos, which are actually quite good.

Seen them before. Great vidoes! 8)

Woeful crew ergonomics but not bad for a first attempt. :)
