Turkish Aeronautical Association (Turkish: Türk Hava Kurumu - THK) is a non-profit organization with an aim of increasing public awareness and participation in aviation related activities and the national body governing air sports in Turkey. The association was founded with the name Türk Tayyare Cemiyeti (Turkish Aeroplane Society) by the directive of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on February 16, 1925.
During the 1940s, it operated a factory in Ankara producing aircraft of its own design as well as under licence from British manufacturer Miles. After the of end WWII, THK got procession of some partially completed Me 163s as well as some the plans and jigs and other production materials. Enought to reverse engine the Me 163.
The RA-1 is more or less a copy of the Me 163 except THK engineers added a horizontal stabilizer and external drop tanks which contain additional T-Stoff and C-Stoff tankage. This increased powered flight time from 7 ½ to 11 minutes. About 30 were built and served in the Türk Hava Kuvvetleri (THK) from about 1946 to 1950.
The kit is an Academy Me 163 rescue.
