Laser/Blaster/Phaser Prop
« on: August 09, 2014, 05:13:36 AM »

The base of the weapon, a lighter, a solid rocket booster and a grip carved from foam.

I want to cut down the barrel a little. The grip will coated with resin, then the shape refined. The main parts will be blended with aves. I will add soem more details like a sight, possibly a scope but I dont want to greeble it too much. I kinda like the clean lines.

Looks wild, Justin! :)

How would doing a cut-out in the booster, so it sits a bit higher but slides back over the trigger housing, fit with your idea? ???

Kinda shortens the barrel & blends it with the body of the weapon a bit more.

Thanks! I cut the barrel down 3.5 inches, sanded the ribs away and puttied the lighter. Its joined with superglue, platic weld and 5 minute epoxy so its staying how it is.

I will blend the barrel to the lighter with putty.

I have decided this will be a Springfield Armory QLP-XD 75  (Quantam Laser Pistol Extreme Duty 75)

Nice Justin,

reminds me a bit of the laser out of Logan's Run somehow.

A little progress, The grip is epoxied to protect the foam. I will probably make a more ergonomic grip from sheets of sculpey.

Had to scrap the foam handle. Made one from sculpey, made two since its eadier bake when its thinner and I will join the two forms then sand to a final shape.

The overall shape is very appealing and I'm looking forward to seeing the new, improved butt.

Wait, that doesn't sound quite right. Hope you know what I meant...

I'd expect a certain Toolslinger to give this one a thorough look too.

I like it, but why have you extinct the structures from the rocketbooster?

Norbert, thanks. I am not sure I understand your question. I liked the shape of the rocket booster and proportionally it was a good fit. I sanded off the ribs and will add details to disguise the original part so its more gun looking than SRB looking. Hope this answers your question, if not please feel free to let me know.

I think Norbet meant "why did you remove the external details" - I think you have answered. ;)

Thx, GTX_Admin, this was exactly, what I've meant.
And yes, bluesman, you have answered my question.

My intention was to remind, the Phasers and Disruptors of Star Trek or the "Handstrahlenwaffe HM-4" (Handraygun HM-4 [if you are interested in, google for the german description an click on "pics"]) of the german 1960s TV-series "Raumpatrouille" (Spacepatrol) were very simple and plain.
But a common Heckler & Koch, or a Colt, or a Glock are much more structurized than this plain, future weapons. So I imagine, a real future-blaster must be also more structured like this poor examples.
