Cheetah SSC - Revell/Matchbox 1/72
« on: April 24, 2020, 08:54:39 PM »
Hi guys

Being a fan of SSC (Super Sonic Cars, for those less familiarized with the acronym :)) I am following attentively the British Bloodhound Saga.

Last February they reached 629mph in Hakskeen Pan, South Africa, and  I hope next year they will finally break the bloody (hence the "blood" in the name :) ) record!

It has been also a racing against financial problems, so good luck for the team!

I have had for some time the intention of building a scaled down version of something that would remotely resembles that iconic vehicle.

And the opportunity came up when I got for free a Corsair A7-D Revell  1/72 kit with no canopy.

Later on I found out it is the old Matchbox mold

So the surgery begun...

And after a few intermediary steps...

In the meanwhile, I had to choose a name for the craft.

And the obvious choice is the name of the fastest land animal, the elegant Cheetah!  Now that's a proper name for the fastest land vehicle! :)

After finding some wheels and a few minor tweaks, the monster is completed...

Now I need to find a proper base and a suitable driver!

Thanks for watching!

Thanks!

I found a base (the lid of a ferrero rocher chocolat box :)) and a driver.

He was so reluctant in participating that I had to promise him he could wear his sturdy dog bite protection suit :)

Looks very cool, but might I suggest thinning the intake lip of the outer inlet annulus? It's looking kinda flat and decidedly non-supersonic at the moment. :-D

Good reuse of an ancient kit! Where did you get the driver?

Hi guys

Too late for modification. sorry! I already painted it. This is a fast car, right? :)

That's also the result of too much free time. Blame it on the virus :)

Regarding the driver figure, it was a more or less successful attempt at replicating figures using oyumaru (the blue stuff) that I tried some time ago.

This was the first run with millliput white

Later on I tried some other brand (forgot the name) with a yellow finish.
Due to a over zealous stuffing, the replicas resulted slightly "fatter" than the originals, hence the Michelin look :)

As for the Cheetah, it is finished!

First was the base colors (with airbrush and masking)

Then the driver, which now looks like a teenage mutant ninja turtle without the shell  ;D

And, to finish, a nice glossy coat, applied with brush (2 coast, 1 hour apart), to make it more aerodynamic :)

And that's how it went to the display case. Finished for now!

My original idea was to fill it with lots of commercial brands decals, like a rally car, but unfortunately I have noting of the sort.

So I cheated and added some "decals" by software manipulation....

And that was pretty much how imagined the whole thing :)

If I have the chance to get real decals, I will add  them.

Thanks for watching!

Excellent from having concept through to finish.  Color scheme with mix of sponsor logos is spot on.  8)
