Australian Landrover Series II in Vietnam 1/35
« on: May 20, 2017, 06:38:11 PM »
Had one a Series II Vietnam Landrover on the list for a while, finally knuckled down whilst waiting for bits and pieces on the Fairmile Build.
So based on this pic

This pic is a bit weird as it has two lots of GS seating and a semblence of the radio table (you can just make out a GRC-160 vehicle mount) of the early FFR the Army used in Vietnam. So that meant some guess work

I started with the Italeri SAS Pink Panther as the basis of the Series II.
Not  that much to do, cut down the front guards and remove doors and tailgate, which was very standard for Aust Army Landrovers in Vietnam.
Add the empty tool brackets, build a new windscreen (not supplied in the kit I had..grrr) and a brushguard. Also used the Mousehouse Landrover Barred tread wheels.

So after that, it pretty much become a painting exercise

This figure is a slightly modified Callsign figure from Firestorm Models

Great job, B! 8)

Italeri SAS Pink Panther? Why isn't yours the same bright pink plastic as mine? ???

Lovely job. There is something about a Landy that is very appealing

Wow, that is nice. I love the muddy footprints! Great scratch-built details.

Very nice.  In my experience, it was a rare 'rover that had it's spare tyre mounted on the bonnet ('cause it made the bonnet too heavy to lift easy for a first parade servicing).   I see the filler caps for the fuel tanks are in the correct position although slightly the wrong shape.   I don't remember there being a dish shape in the bonnet either on Aussie 'rovers.  The figure just needs some belt loops painted over the belt but apart from that, looks perfect.

I think it's the pure, no frills, work-horse design & function of the beasties. :)
