Title: Republic P-84A Thunderjet
Post by: Spey Phantom on February 02, 2018, 11:26:37 PM
ok, looking at the stash of '46 kits, i think ive found a fitting entry.
a while back ive started cutting plastic on a Mistercraft 1/72 F-84E Thunderjet, to be converted to an early A/B version.

modifications will include removal of the wingtip tanks and a new canopy.
as for markings, im still choosing between either RAF or USAAF colors.

this is what im planning for the base version.

A bit of inspiration for you Nils, this is a Heller E G converted back into a B using a spare canopy out of the Academy kit.

Perhaps a hybrid of P-84 and P-47N bits?  I'm thinking canopy and wings from a P-47N, fuselage, landing gear, and tail surfaces from a straight-winged P-84 and possibly adding the dorsal vertical tail fillet of the P-47N.  This will take some hybridization of P-47N and P-48 wings, but the root chords are the same and it looks like a reasonably simple bit of surgery at first study.  For grins, replace the 8x .50 machine fit with 6x 20mm cannon fit.

The P-84 seems tailor-made for this GB, Nils!

Will watch with interest,
