It was test to see if the tanker could carry a combination of standard jet fuel and maple syrup for the CF-100

Interestingly, I came across this today, while reading the book 'Rommel's Desert Commanders' . . .

That sounds like it could be a great scene in a technothriller.

That's what it appears to be.  Looks to be a SSBN too.

Based on the area near the Dry Deck Shelter (DDS) this appears to be one of the four SSGN 726 (USS Ohio) conversions.  The four submarines in this sub-class have modified hull structure just aft of the sail to accommodate up to two DDS in addition to the shed-load of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
