Title: Kamov KA-101 Tilt Rotor - Done !
Post by: Buzzbomb on August 19, 2020, 02:13:33 PM
More stash ratting.

So what to do with a gawdawful kit like this. Short run, sloppy detail, questionable fit, just.. not good. All I can think of it must have been a good idea at the time when I bought it.

Using the movie Avatar as a bit of inspiration, some work on some tilt rotors. Cutting up the kit rotors, make some rotor cowls by wrapping strip around some Poly Tube.
More evergreen and there we are.

Cursory fix to see if it is working and pretty much, appears to be

I reckon it is worth proceeding with.

Looks good! That's a serious amount of putty, though.

The kit sprues/boxtop look like an AModel product, but they seem to be a different company.

Great start! Love those Avatar-inspired ducted tilt-rotors

I've seen Sky-High connected with Intech ... so maybe Polish?

So a bit of a lockdown activity spurt.

First up, the kit appears to be of Amodel origin, Scalemates said so and the decal sheet has AModel on it. I suppose if you really wanted to work the parts better, you could avoid some of the more "agricultural" fit to some of the parts. Not really in the scope of this build. Although as the surface detail on the fuselage is quite good, fine engraved lines.

So sanded down the excess filler, it may have been a bit over the top and went on to clean up (within reason) the rest of the bits and got it together.

Not 100% sold on the Christmas Light top sensor housing. It might disappear

Bung on some primer to see where more attention is needed. Oh dear. Is more attention needed. There may be trade offs.

Thanks for the kind words

Grey. Boring grey. I made it sort of possible realworld Russian Federation with markings from decal spares.

Quick and slick build.

Once I got over short run quality of the mouldings, it did come out ok. They just need a bit more work. Too spoiled these days.
Perhaps I should fire up another vacform to remind myself of what old school modelling is. ;)
Cheers.

Beautious kit-bash with RW look.  Could be one of a couple built as test vehicles or went into service.  8)     Crackerjack job on rotors-housings.

Great build and result! It looks believable, too. I am * shocked * that the canopy on an Amodel helicopter kit fit without major surgery required. What wizardry is this?

I'm a bit surprised that I was able to ID it as an Amodel kit - I guess I've built/suffered through enough of them.

Echoing the sentiments already posted.  A very insect-like appearance that just seems right.  Well done!

That turned out great!
Kinda retro-sci-fi-ish, with the lines of the Hormone's fuselage and the shrouded props. Reminds me of those paintings where people of yesteryear imagined what the future would look like, but with certain design elements still rooted in their time.
