Is that a CVS I see there?

Is that a CVS I see there?

Strike cruiser?

Work continues, letting out the deck on the other side:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/E521473D-B1A5-4668-85A4-102E8D498DD5_zpsx0mxleig.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/E521473D-B1A5-4668-85A4-102E8D498DD5_zpsx0mxleig.jpg.html)
I think I may have let it out too far, but its all glued and reinforced so too late to redo it.

Anyway this kit has got me thinking that I should drop the rest of my planned builds and whip out my other Izumo and do something like this:

Main hull primed and ready for paint, unfortunately I forgot to glue and putty the ski jump before priming:

Deck markings:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/767E4067-CDDB-40F7-B333-3A63191AA065_zps2uwag4z2.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/767E4067-CDDB-40F7-B333-3A63191AA065_zps2uwag4z2.jpg.html)
Was actually a bit of a disaster, I originally used strips of ultra thin styrene for the lines, but after I finished gluing them on I realized they looked crap so I had to chisel them off resand and repaint the deck (destroying the forward elevator decal). The new lines were done with paint masks, naturally this process knocked off most of the antennas( haven't built a ship in a while - should have done them last). Also I wasn't going to bother with PE handrails, but the front section looked a bit bare so I decided to do the whole ship.

How many cells in that extremely impressive VLS farm?

Something like this strikes me as a rational way to approach a modern heavy cruiser type ship today. Big VLS farm, maybe a 155mm gun on the fo'c'sle lots of AAD missiles a few large strike missile launchers and sufficient air assets to self protect against ASW and air threats.

Like the concept.

256 cells
The original design did call for either a 5-inch gun or two 3-inch guns, but I guess I just forgot about it while building.

And the next 2 projects.

An escort for the Izumo stovl. Putting SAMPSON/PAAM on a Takinami, also relocating funnels to the center-line:

It was called the Mission Essential Unit from a design study by the USN.

The US appears to be revisiting the concept of a light carrier, well at least Senator McCain is, so I wonder if something like this may be on the cards again going forward.

Isn't that what the America class was supposed to be? But as much as I'd like to see a new build light carrier, I highly doubt it's going to happen.

Anyway CGV escort frigate complete:

As for the third project I was going for was a SWATH carrier inspired by this concept art:
If there's an extension I'll get on it, otherwise I'll put it in my regular ship thread.

No, SWATH hulls are very different see below:

The SWATH concept puts most of the hull flotation below the catamaran's waterline to greatly reduce wave action on the hull. Sort of like building a ship on top of two submarines.

Finally after much procrastination and design I begin construction of my SWATH carrier:
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/C0C2F489-26E8-4D29-9F2C-91732A651747_zpsr1jz53ud.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/C0C2F489-26E8-4D29-9F2C-91732A651747_zpsr1jz53ud.jpg.html)
Cutting it close deadline wise, but I have the day free so I hope to have quite a bit done soon.

Nothing huge or fancy, it's based on the concept art I posted a few posts up, has a ski-jump and is about 147m long (the model will be 210mm long, the width of an A4 sheet of paper I used to sketch the design).
(http://i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y390/polygon88/7D2AA8B0-9B87-4911-A519-DD6E253C10CA_zpsnry6q0uy.jpg) (http://s1272.photobucket.com/user/polygon88/media/7D2AA8B0-9B87-4911-A519-DD6E253C10CA_zpsnry6q0uy.jpg.html)

Hangar space fits 6 harriers comfortably and some odd helicopters, airgroup is mission dependent though.

Didn't get as much done as I thought I would, we'll see how I go tomorrow.
