Yep, certainly a nice looking pile of parts. Will be interesting to see how this one goes together. It is definitely nice to see that Academy has covered a fair number of variants with the additional parts in the kit including ordnance. I noticed that the CyberModeler review left out or just plain did not see the SUU-23 20mm Vulcan Gun Pod that was on the one parts sprue. The versions of AIM-9 Sidewinders included is amazing.

It's been a while since Academy has offered any new armor that really caught my attention but I'm happy to finally see this one-

I remember when the Academy catalog had black and white images in their catalog showing the M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle as a pending and soon to be released model kit. Then it up and disappeared like vaporware never to be seen again. Maybe this time they will be inspired to carry through with the M728 and a few other kits based on the M60 and M48. An affordable AVLB would also be nice as would an up to date and correct M60A2.

Yep, I'd love to see an M728 and an AVLB. What I'd REALLY like to see is a "slick" M60 as well. I have a few "Slick 60s" in my area (and an M728) and would like to have some affordable, all injection kits to model them.

Nah...to prevent such puns the aircraft is fitted with a special sensor that ejects the pilot in such cases... ;)

Looking at the pilot figure again, I think it might be an idea to cast a few copies of the helmet and use them on other advanced fighter whifs. :)
Thinking about it, I could have sworn I've read an article that the JASDF intends or at least looks at possibilities to update their F-15 cockpits with a set-up similar to the F-35's.

You're right. My bad. "A", "B", "C", too many variants. I still want a "C"!

Remembering which F-35 variant is which is easy. As we joked on the program:
A is for Asphalt, the Air Force version
B is for Beach, the USMC version
C is for Carrier, the Navy version
Given the commonality designed into the aircraft, you could, if you were willing to pay for it in both money and extra weight, get a F-35A with the probe and drogue refueling set up of the F-35B & C and I'd love to see some country do that for maximum versatility in refueling.

It could be done, but would be an especially-built forward section for that version, combining "C" and "B" specific elements as the "C" nose gear has extra structure and attachments not found on the other variants.

I wonder why they didn't just go that way anyway, instead of going down the old Sea Harrier path -- they had a clean sheet when they were designing the F-35

I'm going to get either this one or the Italeri one, but either way, the first think I would do is sand down all those raised zig-zag lines. My photos of the real thing show it to be quite smooth all over. And no panel/rivet lines what so ever (as in the Fujimi 'B' kit)

A new 1/35 armor release on the horizon: the US M36B1- http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10295653 (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10295653). This is the mash up of the M36 gun and turret with the M4A3 hull. What's interesting to me is that it appears to offer a newly tooled VVSS with the revised, "upswept" return roller support. That has been a missing element in Academy's line of Sherman-based vehicles for a number of years and it should be useful for modeling late production vehicles that used this suspension.

This one's a bit disappointing. While the F-4J looks really nice, the T-50 seems rather underwhelming.

Gerald Willing has kindly provided us witn an in the box kit review of The Academy USAAF B-29A "OLD BATTLER" (1:72nd scale, kit number 12517) at ModellVersium.de (http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel.php?id=10959)
Either the reviewer left out the parts runners containing the Fat Man and Little Boy shapes or Academy has removed them completely from this issue of the kit. Yet the KB-29 parts remain. Nice options for several early B-29s that are not NMF.

Thanks for the confirmation on parts included in the kit. I think I did see the review at CyberModeler and completely forgot about it. I have two of the earlier issues of that B-29 pretty much for parts :)

Academy has a new variant of the M36/M36B2 coming our way. The new kit is labelled for the Battle of the Bulge, and being they recently retooled some parts for their M10, I am wondering if Academy has updated any parts for the M36? Hope more details from Academy will be available soon.

For those of you who have not heard Academy has re released the 1/48th TA-183 and yes it's the old Amtech kit. You can get one in from Korea for $21.00 and $10.00 to ship. Now how many of us feel stupid for paying over $50.00 for one?

Got my example yesterday and it is well molded with a variety of markings options included (includes one supposedly evaluated by the Soviets). However, someone at Academy really didn't do their research as I doubt an aircraft with a "black tulip" nose and a heart as a personal marking was flown by Adolf Galland; I could, though, believe it was flown by Erich Hartmann.

Bought three when it came out, 20 years or so ago. It was a shame the company went under, as they were working on a night fighter version, and a couple of long body Ju-88's in 1/72 scale in the works. Got two of the Mistletoe 88's.
As I understand it, both owners had heart attacks, and that was the end of Amtec. Tamiya rented the Ta-183 molds, and that was the last time this mold was used.

large scale RC modelers have tried to make the Ta183 design fly and the only way it's stable is with wing fences... so it would work in Russian makings. Here's my 1/72 PM kit in Argentinian markings (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=161.msg1465)

Harley! Welcome aboard! I had thought the same, but I understand the Ju 88 'Fuhrungmaschin' ( think I spelled it right ) was released, but it must have been in fairly small numbers - I never saw one.
