High Mobility Battlefield Logistics Transport, a.k.a. High-Speed Combat Logistics System Vehicle;
Actually, this started a while ago on "What If Modelers" & there was a bit put in here in the "Inspirations/Land/MOWAG Piranha, et al." thread
Slow building but I have a tiny update!
Rail around the hatchway!
But it's time to button up the tractor unit, so final pic of the interior.
Interior now has ammo pouches for the MP5's in the boxed area on the other side of the hatchway to the MP5's
and a selection of modelling magazines strewn around (obviously a messy crew). Magazines are scans of actual mag's in my collection
ranging in age from 2008 to a month or two ago. There are 2 TMMI mag's, which I have for a couple of great post-apocalyptic vehicle
builds, a recent FSM (30 years issue, I think) and an old ModelArt Australia, with Buzzbomb's scratch-built "mule" from the movie "Serenity".
Other mag's are just the back pages of those 4.
Just after those pic's were taken (about 10 minutes ago) I sprayed the interior with dullcoat. When that's dry I'll put the joint-ball in & seal the beast.
Cheers!
Guy
PS: Forgot to mention the .50 cal ammo boxes next to the commanders seat!
(Photobucket! C:-) )
-
Oooh, I like. Such great interior detail.
Cheers,
Logan

You should enter this in the Clear Your Workbench GB (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?board=39.0)
-
All those rivits-It cries out for a smokestack! Wonderful detail on the interior-the magazines are an
especially nice touch.
-
Love the added interior detail, really gives it character. :)
-
Found a few missing detail shots on another camera...
Commander's space (upper);

Fire extinguisher (scratch built incl. decals);

... while I was moving these on to my computer.
The forklift, so far;

Left side;

Top;

Rear;
In the Guard Van;
Not much movement on this (the grip-surface isn't glued down , yet);
But it does have the connection for linking to the tractor (or a cargo trailer, if I make one);
Cheers!
Guy :icon_ninja:
PS: Greg, this is my on-bench build but I think the other 2 or 3 sitting boxed-up in storage might fit the criteria.
PPS: Thanks, guys! :))
-
Love the interior ... especially the armour porn scattered about :)
-
forklift shaped more like a Bobcat .... does that make it a Combat Bobfork ? shame it doesn't have tracks --- or is that also planned ?
I don't think I will look at this thread again
until it's all finished that is :)
The suspense of waiting for this beast to be completed is killing me :-*
-
Thanks, guys!
Build is progressing but between casual shifts at work (full-time contract ended but they kept me on as casual - so "under-employed, rather that unemployed), applying for more &/or full-time jobs & building this I'm running out of time for the internet , so I've been AWOL a bit recently.
Pictures when I get a chance.
Cheers!
Guy :))

... especially the armour porn scattered about
whoa.. hold on got dizzy for a second........ :-*
well glad your workin, just do some more on this!! ;) ;)

Where's the bacon? I see BLT in the name...
Nice work!

That, Mr da B, is actually very funny! 8)
My (private) nickname for this is the Honey Mustard BLT! ;D
The ingredients will, possibly, be somewhere in the cargo - perhaps. ;)
Cheers!

Hello, everyone! Thomas the Tanker is here to show us the latest updates. :icon_ninja:
Work has, recently, returned its focus to the tractor unit.
This is the front; notice the lack of headlight units, rear vision mirrors & headlight guards but lots of rivets.
This is the right side; pretty boring except for the re-positioned tool mount & the rivets.
The top; I like the gun... & the rivets.
The left side; neat ladder but why he put curtain across entry?... & rivets.
And this is the back; & no tail-lights but more bloody rivets! Who needs Steampunk, when you've got the Stryker?
And, just for schitzengiggles, left side & top.
Comments welcome, as usual.
Cheers!
Guy.

Mmmmm, packed with wholesome tasty rivets! ;) looking very nice. :)

"Everyone say 'Thank you Thomas'." Looking good! :)

I was going to say that it was a positively riveting build. Looks great to my eye.

Thanks, all! :icon_alabanza:
Sorry I haven't been around much, folks, but I'm a bit busy with training & trying to get several million things done before I bugger off to Christmas Island.
Today is probably the last chance I'll have to visit for the next 6 months, certainly the last I'll have to post any images of modelling as that pretty much came to a stand-still 3 weeks ago and won't re-commence until I get back.
Interweb access on Christmas Island is, I am told, expensive and slow & my working week will be at least 60 hours per. Down time will mostly consist of doing the laundry & exploring the island, with my internet time (once I've sorted out an ISP) being primarily devoted to contacting my family.
So, here are some pic's - note that most of what you see on the caboose/guard-van is not yet glued in place but is ready for when I've completed the insides.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas & that the New Year is prosperous & full of joy!
Cheers!

She's a beaut! Looks more realistic than I even imagined it would! Can't wait to see her finished, but I'm happy to see it all together at last!
Cheers,
Logan
-
fantastic concept, great execution!
-
Oh , WoW !! very nice !
Is it Christmas every day of the year on Christmas Island ??? Can't wait 6mths for this project to be completed ! :( Do hurry back.
-
Thanks, guys! See you on the other side (of the next 5 months)!
-
Have fun.
-
Thanks, Greg! :)
On the island & working for a little while now. Job is ... interesting ... but, surprisingly, more fun than I had expected. Met some of the natives (crabs, the place is over-run with them).
The "Robber crabs" are the most interesting & quite common but the red land crabs are all over the place. I've got photo's, I might post some when I get back. Internet here where I am runs at between 1 & 3 Kb/s, which is frighteningly slow.
Anyway, catch you all later!
Guy.
-
Great scratchbuilding I love the hatch
-
Bump! Bump! Bumpity-bump! Bump-bump! :icon_ninja:
Just letting you all know that this is moving again. Not, perhaps, fast enough to be finished before I have to return to Crab Heaven but it is moving.
Trying to finish the insides of the guard-van so I can button that up ready to do more external work &, hopefully, start the paint job.
I'll try to get some pic's up in the next couple or three days of my progress.
;)
Guy
-
Good to see you back,my friend ... !!!!
-
I'm glad to see that you're making some progress on this.
Just letting you all know that this is moving again. Not, perhaps, fast enough to be finished before I have to return to Crab Heaven but it is moving.
Just think of the fortune you could make selling those hideous crab shells as steampunked hideous crab tanks. Or something.
-
Photo's have been delayed due to a construction alteration. :-X
I have long been unhappy with the height of the "caboose/guard-van" unit & I've finally decided to bite the bullet & make it taller. ???
This will ease some of the trouble I've had building the forklift to fit into the back & allow the crew to stand upright in the cargo area. :)
Thanks for your patience!
Cheers!
Guy
-
Wow, I like it. A completely different idea and beautifully constructed. Keep up up the great work. :)
-
(http://www.wiehes.com/roinamur/crab1.jpg)
When you say "Robber Crab" is this what you're talking about?
Good to have you back -and by the way, the ship images from Christmas are terrific, too!
-
Very similar, Doc. CI versions seem to be brighter than that one. Also, Robber Crabs are called Coconut Crabs elsewhere.
Still haven't had a chance to download all of my CI photo's to the Bucket, yet, but I have a few good Robber Crab pic's.
Almost done with the interior of the guard van, too. Try for some photo's later this week or early next.
;)
Guy
-
Build has gone even slower than expected (funny how Mrs Wombat seems to want to spend time & do things with me on my 6 week break ???) but here are the photo's to prove that something has happened. I have the housings for the upper hydraulic lifters to fit & then I'll glue in the fuel drum pallet & glue down the lid & seal it all up until I get back from CI in 6 months (or sooner, if K.Rudd's plan to stop the boats works).

All that wonderful detailing sealed up... :(
-
Guy, have you seen the 1:32 -1:35th scale freight pallets produced by Aoshima (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10122106)? Three types of freight pallet and a stack of lumber (real wood and very fine grain). The lumber looks about right for a standard 10cmX10cm (4"X4") post and there are 60 included in the kit along with multiple pallet jacks. The Aoshima fork lifts are nice but a bit too large to fit inside of your HBMLT.
-
Thanks, gents! :D
Hadn't seen the Aoshima pallets before, Jeffry, &, due to time & budget constraints, I probably wont be ordering any in the near future, I'm afraid.
Maybe for later builds, when I finally get to be based back home, either in my current job role or another.
:)

Hi Guy,
I found the kits by accident when I stopped in at a hobby shop in Seattle that just happened to have the pallet kit and the fork lift kits on the shelf. I had a fork lift sent to me by another member here (thanks again Alvis) and the pallets were just what I was looking for. Price was a bit more than I would have wanted to pay but it was an impulse purchase. ;)
-
Thought I'd find you doing something nefarious and vaguely shameful >:D with some innocent and unwitting plastic armored ground transport! :o
I like your vehicle immensely (says a lot about me), up to the usual standards I see, ( :) ;) ;D ), brilliant that is, you left this one at home didn't you and not one of the armored vehicle kits you took with you? This is the one we discussed over the either ain't it?
So wots the colour scheme gonna be?
Keep up the amazing work fella, I look forward to the finished vehicle.
-
Yep, left it at home. Can't bring enough stuff to do the work required to finish it. Brought 3 tanks with me to be built OOB: a M-41 to be a RAM's tank ca. 1968 in Viet Nam, a Pz.Kpfw. 35(t) to be finished as either a Polish or Frech Invasion version (no Whiffing! :o ) & a T-62 to be completed as a KO'ed Somali tank to accompany an ex-USMC Imperial Ethiopian Army M-60A1 in a ca. 2000+ diorama. These I'll just build & take home to finish as-&-when I can.
Royal Australian Marines camo... Which I haven't fully realised, yet, but which will probably include a blue-grey & be based on the regular Army camo.
:)
Guy
-
Guy.. this just keeps humming along.
Like it a lot
-
Thanks, Brian! :D
Pity it'll be 6 months before I get to see it again. :(
Guy
-
Don't feel too bad - I suspect that more than one of us have more than one build that we don't
get back to for six months ( or more. ) The interior work is terrific! As an irreverent aside, I looked
at the vehicle acronym again this morning and the first thing that popped into my head was "Her
Majesty's Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato"....
-
Close, Doc! ;)
My private version has been Honey-Mustard, Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato. ;D
:o
Guy
-
This is another way to good build. :-*
Suburb - I be all green.
First rate details everywhere :)
-
Thanks, finsrin!
Hopefully not too long now until I can get back to her. Depends on how long it is after I get home (in 11 days! ;D ) that my wife lets me set up my modelling spot.
The urge to build a cargo trailer has built up to be almost irresistable :-\ , so a couple more Strykers are probably going to suffer extereme surgery at some time, too.
:icon_music:
Guy
-
Well, here I am, again!
The HMBLT has been primed with Tamiya grey primer & is sitting on the dining table waiting expectantly because (Ta-dah!) yours-truly has broken out the airbrush equipment!
I'll be trying to fit in a crash-course on operating it today & will try to get the basic paint work done on this before the weekend, when I intend to take it to the SAPMA Expo as a WIP.
Paint job on this will be more difficult than for the RAM M41AS because it's going to be a 3 or 4 tone scheme using tailor-mixed colours - which I'll make in bulk for other modern RAM builds, if I get them right.
I've also started work on the cargo trailer unit & a fast recon. vehicle by violently bashing 2 kits together.
-
'Bout time you got back to being violent to helpless plastic fella, love to see some progress ........... :D
-
Well, it's been a cruddy 6 weeks on the modelling front - I've barely been here at all because I've been using what little time I've had to build.
This has been primed & I've gotten a fair way with the cargo trailer.
I haven't taken any photo's & my camera's packed away 'coz I fly back to CI too-early tomorrow.
Sorry! :icon_crap:
-
I feel your pain, going through the busy season at work to boot.
No worries, we'll be here to enjoy your next update!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop,
Brian da Basher
-
Thanks, Brian! :)
I've been drowning my sorrows with kit & accessories purchases that I shouldn't really make. :icon_beer:
(God help me if the missus finds out just how much I've spent! :o )
-
Splendid :)
Another BTS example of a fine should I take up knitting or jigsaw puzzles build.
-
How did you know that's what I'd been contemplating? ;D
-
Well, I'm still alive! ;D
(It was a close call after building 2 cars! :-X )
Some of you may remember this build ............................. No?! ??? ............................. OK.
Anyway, I've resurrected it from the Cupboard of Doom. :icon_surprised:
This is pretty much where I left off the new cargo trailer but for the last couple of days I've been working on the hydraulic jacks for the side doors.
Progress to follow, as it occurs:

Oh, I remember this project, and now I'm feeling like maybe stamp collecting is more my speed (I think knitting is FAR beyond my abilities).
-
I'm with LemonJello on this.
Released from Cupboard of Doom - yes !
-
That's one big bunch of tires! Love it!
-
Looking good
-
Now you're just showing off Wombat!! ;D ;D It's starting to look like something from the book series "The Amtrak Wars" by Patrick Tilley :) :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Reminds me I need to finish that series some time, its only been 15 years since I read the first book.
-
Thank you, gentlemen & BtS forum members! :icon_alabanza:
It's good to get back to the HMBLT after such a long hiatus, even if it is back to a lot of fiddly bits.
Enjoying myself immensely. ;D
Yep, the idea is, essentially, an armoured road train (I envision a maximum of 3 [but more usually 1 or 2] cargo trailers & guard van behind the tractor) & could be viewed as a possible ancestor of Tilley's Amtrack Wars "wagon-trains".
We'll see when I've finished whether I'm showing off or simply embarrassing myself.
-
I'd say your skills and the finished product will embarrass us mere mortals far more :-[ :-[
Do you reckon a trailer with a drone launcher or small helo pad for a recon/light attack drone of some description would work.
It'd probably look even more like on of Tilley's Wagon Trains ;)
-

Bro, that ain't happ'nin'! ;D
-
this is very cool. Will have to try something like this myself.
-
It. Is. Alive !
Yes, bring it on Womby, I really want to see this completed.
Anecdotally on this concept, whilst serving in the Army, our unit had a mobile Q Store trailer, that was called the Pie Wagon, because in its former life, it was literally a mobile bakery. It had a side serving window and everything, which made our Q Wallahs feel very business like in their "shop"
-
Thanks, guys! :D
Go for it, Camthalion, I'd love to see your take on it! :)
-
Update:
The roof & rear bulkhead are on & the hydraulic rams are fixed in place (they move, so every side-hatch will be openable [if that's a word]).

I've had to fight a bad case of AMS with this & have managed to stop myself putting in all of the hydraulic lines along the inside of the centre beams, although I will be putting in either 12 or 16 lines on the front bulkhead to represent the lines to the control boxes on the outside of the front bulkhead.
Need to buy more brass rod 1st, though.
:))

This really is an epic build, in every respect. I'm jealous of your talent and your space to display the finished model in one piece!

Space? What space? ???

Discouraging and Inspirational all at the same time...would that be discperational? or Inspouraging? Either way, this is an epic project and I am envious of your abilities.
Someone pass me a coloring book and a box of crayons.

Knitting kit anyone...

Fine, just so long as the needles don't have to be moved :P
Amazing stuff, Old Wombat ... keep going! :)

Guys, I think you're mistaking pure, bloody-mindedness (You will go to gether this way, you b@$+@rd!) for talent ..... I wish! :icon_crap:

Yeah, my wife knits. It isn't even remotely an easier/simpler hobby. Pet rock care is an easy and simple hobby:

That's like Charles Kettering's quote: "I notice the harder I work, the luckier I get."
-
Update:
Not much to see but I've put both ends on the trailer & have the hatch panels marked out on the styrene in the 1st pic. The browny blotch on the front bulkhead was a painting error that got turned into a patch effected by a ruptured battery, or similar in-transit accident.

:)
PS: What I've forgotted to mention is the inside part of the door hydraulic control boxes & associated hydraulic lines have been added to the front bulkhead. It's grey-on-grey, so a little difficult to see. Used lead wire, instead of brass rod, as I got impatient - worked, though.
-
All this and no glue smears; How can that be ?
-
Sandpaper & touch-ups! ;)

Well, a major fail with my hinges, :icon_crap: so I've ordered some Aber & Voyager workable hinges to see how they go. ???
In the meantime, I have 24 resin weighted wheels for AFV Club Strykers which I'll have to modify to suit my Trumpeter Stryker-based build(s).
It's a lot of resin to be worked on, when you pile it up in front of you. :-\
-
OK, so after three & a half years & more wheel fit-tests than I care to remember, I try out my resin wheels only to see;
:o :o :o :o :o
So, I now have the lid off the guard-van/caboose & I'm planning major surgery to shift the central access hatch section 0.5 cm forward of its current position. Modifying the bins at the rear is minor surgery.
Talk about embarrassing! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
-
What is this testing thing you talk of ?
This sort of thing happens to me all the time. Far easier to just alter the model than test fit.
-
Oh, yeah! Real easy! ::)
Where I started;

This is where I'm up to now;
Work is continuing.
-
Good progress, for me - where I'm up to;

Now, time to go to bed!
:)
-
Of course there was always the option of lengthening the suspension to make the body ride higher. A 2cm extension would have cleared the both obstructions.
Sort of like the truck stuck under the bridge thing, where the engineers are looking at ways to raise the bridge whilst the mechanic just lets the tyres down.
-
No-o, I don't think so, Brian.
Although, I was (for a moment) sorely tempted to follow a suggestion from Zenrat on WhatIf to slap on some corrugated reactive armour & paint it Colourbond River Gum.
-
Interior is toooo good and I can't knit -- Oh my, what to do now ? :-\
-
Yep, we feel your pain on the resin wheel fit ... but at least we got another goosey at that fabulous interior out of the deal ;)
-
OK, still progressing at a fairly good rate (for me).
Looking much better;
Still work to do, gaps to fill & dirtying-up on the inside;
And, of course, PSR!

RDO's are over & back to work for the next 7 days, so progress will undoubtedly slow right down, now, but I hope to be finished the fix-up by the next round of RDO's & be able to return to the cargo trailer - coz the hinges have arrived & impressive they are (& impressively daunting, too, for someone who has done so little PE work).
:))
-
As an alternative to PE hinges, you might like to try using Dolls' House hinges. They are small and just about the right size for 1/35 work.
Have a look here: http://www.phoenixmodeldevelopments.com/acatalog/The_Phoenix_Miniature_Hinge_Range.html (http://www.phoenixmodeldevelopments.com/acatalog/The_Phoenix_Miniature_Hinge_Range.html)
I have used them on several models and they work rather well.
-
Used hinges from Micro Mark on LCO build.

Thanks, guys, but I've gotta learn sometime & now's as good a time as any. ;)
-
Well that looks whizzer !
Those wheels really do pop
-
OK, no wheel pic's, that hasn't changed but the inside has ... a bit.
The outside - not quite finished cleaning it up, that can happen over time, now;

For those of you who are so inclined - close-ups of the interior;

You may notice that the interior is a little messy, this was as a result of trying to blend the new bits with the old bits.
Not entirely successful but good enough for me, assisted by a misting of very3 diluted Tamiya XF-57 Buff & A MIG-064 Earth Brown overall.
The roof is back on (& in need of filler at the ends), all the masking is out of the hatchways, as I'll be using the hatches to block them from now on & I'll be finishing off the fiddly bits as I pause for glue & paint to dry on the cargo trailer.
Entering the final stages, gents!
:D
(Maybe you'll get to see it finished in a month or so. :-\ )
-
That interior is just awesome!
-
That interior is just awesome!
+1
-
Thanks, gents! :icon_alabanza:
-
agreed the interior is fabulous, now how do you show that off ?
Love the detail, the Aussie Post logo on the bag is great, nice touch. Plus it would probably get there quicker than AustPost could manage anyway
-
Thanks, BT! :)
Viewing access will be via 2 open hatches in the roof, open side hatch &, of course, open rear hatch.
Most of the detail isn't really up to close scrutiny standards but is good for limited-access viewing as planned.
-
Coming along very well indeed ole' Wombat!! 8) 8) 8) 8)
What colour scheme? Not just boring old sand grey I hope :icon_meditation:
-
How the heck do you get it to look "used" in that way. ???
Since I can't turn to knitting (don't know how), gotta make another appointment with the shrink !
-
How the heck do you get it to look "used" in that way. ???
My method tends to involve being a shite modeller. ;D
In this instance;
Multiple layers of washes & dry brushing (some with pencil "lead", I seem to recall). Then, several years later, you find an error in your part-finished build & try to fix it. Being lazy (as well as shite), you don't remove all the internal equipment & fittings, adding in "repair" patches instead of new decking & patching gaps. You then, knowing full-well it won't work, try to match the weathering/wear on the new bits. It doesn't work. So, you try cleaning off the old weathering (& the new) in order to start from scratch, this doesn't work either (Surprise! Surprise!). So, you cover over everything you don't want weathered the same as the vehicle (stores, etc.), grab out the airbrush & spray the whole lot with Tamiya buff (mixed about 2 drops of paint to an airbrush cup of methylated spirits (it dries really fast), letting it dry between each pass, until you're moderately happy with the result. Next, you do the same with MIG earth brown. Finally, take off the "masking" (I used cling wrap) & give everything another quick overspray with buff to tone it down a notch.
Simples! ;)
-
Real life has been interfering, again, but still not much progress for a lot of work.
Hinges have been a real PITA! :icon_twisted:
Anyway the centre section in the photo's is complete (except for bolts), the end sections still need their appliqué armour.

As you can see they don't sit down correctly. I think I'm going to need to find a fix for that. ::)
-
Wow!!! Wombat old son, great work as usual :) :) 8) 8)
-
Thanks, mate! :)
-
Very intense detail !!! :) :)

But look !!! It works !!!! 8)
Terrific Detail there Old W,

Terrific Detail there Old W,
Indeed! Well worth the wait :)

Absolutely top notch! :icon_alabanza: :icon_alabanza:
-
Thank you all, gent's! :icon_alabanza:
The front & rear hatches are finished to the same level, now.
Left-hand side to do next. :-\
-
No photo's right now but progress is happening.
I've got all the hinges on & working but the hatches still aren't sitting down properly. However, I have an idea that involves the failed hinges I have sitting around to rectify that (little spring catches).
I, also, have the control boxes for the hydraulics fitted to the front of the trailer - with working hinged covers! ;D - & all the armour plating is on. Just need to fit all the bolts (140-150), now.
Unfortunately for my sanity, I'm now looking at the guard-van & thinking about how I'm going to fix the hinges on the rear hatches with an eye to making them functional.
I'll try to get some photo's up soon.
Ciao for now! :)
-
Have you tried 1mm diameter nemodium (?) magnets used by the flying model fraternity to hold your doors closed? ;)
-
Nope but the "failed hinges" plan is working nicely (as of last night/ early this a.m.). ;)
-
You still need your beauty sleep Wombat ;D
-
Sleep? What's this "sleep" of which you speak? ???
"Failed Hinges" plan still working but longevity is going to be a serious issue.
May have to try the magnets later.
Build is almost at the fully-primered stage, now - maybe tomorrow & maybe some photo's.
-
Maybe, shmaybe ... we demand photos! :)
-
Well, just to keep apophenia happy (after all, he has given me 2 builds on the to-do list), we have photo's of where I'm at;

Unfortunately the hinges & the latches are somewhat weak &, at this point in time, I don't know how to fix that, nor do I have the inclination.
It's past time to get this build finished.
I just have to put the cover plates in the cargo trailer & paint her up, & she'll be done ....
.... for now. Until I find the energy to come back & fix up the faults, build the cargo & the new forklift, & do the weathering.
Cheers! :icon_beer:
-
Amaze-balls!
I look forward to seeing it on all of its wheels.
-
It's past time to get this build finished.
I understand the feeling but NooOOooOoO! This build has been so much fun to watch.
-
Thanks, guys! :))
Frank, it's just going to be a sabatical, once I've done the main paint scheme & put the wheels on, then she'll sit in the display cabinet until I get the inclination & time to do the jobs mentioned.
-
To go the full Ritchie....Just marvellous.
That is terrific work Guy, all around
-
My, it is big isn't it ;D
Definitely needs wheels and paint and weathering and . . . . . . finishing. ::)
This is where it transforms from plastic to "Whiff Reality" :) :)
-
Thanks, Brian & Neil! :icon_alabanza:
-
So, after 8 1/2 days with our land-line &, hence, internet down, I can report progress on the Armoured Vehicle Front!
Paint has happened!
ASLAV based scheme using Tamiya XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan, LifeColor UA 091 Dark Green (as the light green - go figure! :-\ ) & Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green (as the dark green). Not the actual Army colours but, then, they're going to be Marines vehicles when finished, so a bit of variation is OK in my universe.
I have been tossing around the idea of adding a 4th colour (Tamiya XF-52 Flat Earth) as another point of / obvious expression of difference to RW vehicles, but I'm beginning to feel it will look too crowded if I do that.
Anyway, photo's are still uploading to PhotoBucket - quite a few of them, actually. So, when that's done I'll chuck in a photo's-only post for your perusal.
Cheers! :icon_beer:

Very nice work

Thanks, guys! :icon_alabanza:
Finally got around to putting a gloss coat on for decals today.
-
For a sec I thought you had built a couple of St. Chamond tanks. The camo looks good!
-
Looking really good.
If you can promise me this will be at Adelaide Expo this year, I may come over again

It'll be there! :)
As will this; http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=6197.0 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=6197.0)

Needs more weapons! Some sort of AAA remote pod on the second wagon. Like stingers or something.... Just a suggestion. But it does look good!
-
Well, decals are on. :icon_music:
They fought me all the way & don't look as good as I'd like but I'll live with it. I just have to hide them behind a bit of dirt, weathering & back story. :icon_beer:
I'm now in the process of putting some wear-&-tear & paint onto 24 wheels. :icon_crap:
-
Quick update:
I'm trying to get this to a reasonable level of completion to display at the SAPMA Expo.
So, here are a couple of overview shots of where I'm at, still qite a few fiddly bits to do;

Mighty fine
More than done by the way I build.

Looking good.

Always a jaw-dropper  I guess it would be over-kill to tow your 4x4 ASLAV behind the HMBLT ... like one of those monster RVs towing a trailer and a jeep ;D

There's nothing about this that I don't like. Awesome.

Wow!
-
Thanks, LJ & Volkodav! :icon_alabanza:

Wont get to see this at this years show, not popping over as just got back from the UK.
Hope it gets a lot of What the's.... though
Looks great
-
I'm taking it, even though it's not quite finished & entering it in AV4 - AFV Wheel Driven Large Scale, as “What If …” M1137A3 High Mobility Battlefield Logistics Transport: Royal Australian Marines (1/35) – Work in Progress, Kitbash: Parts of 4 x Trumpeter 1/35 Stryker AFV’s of various models, scratch-built trailer superstructures, References: Nil
Taking & entering 6 items all up, none of which am I supplying "refernces" for - largely because I don't care about them, as all my builds are really for me, but also to get the idea of whifs out there into the broader modelling community.
-
How awsome idea and realization
-
Wombat you'd be surprised how many modellers look down on Whiffs, and don't consider them at all ::) :o
-
When its a Whiff they don't have reference for how many rivets to count.
-
Wombat you'd be surprised how many modellers look down on Whiffs, and don't consider them at all ::) :o
True, though that does seem to be changing.
-
We can live in hope GTX ;)
Good luck Wombat and drive the rivet counters nuts with exceptional modelling skill ;) ;)
-
... drive the rivet counters nuts with exceptional modelling skill ;) ;)
Yup, I did that!
Actually this kit, & both my other armour kits, got swapped & changed from one category to another then back again as the guys tried to work out where best to put them. I've got to give it to the club members, they were trying to find the best place for them to get a result. Today I was told several times, maybe a dozen, that my building skills are right up there but that I had no references & therefore started at 0/10 for that element. They went on to say that the kit instructions should be part of the references, even if I've strayed well away from them, &, as there aren't any images of what I build, write down my ideas & thought processes during the build, & to include my "WiP" photo's (that impressed them, that I take them) as part of my references, with a running commentary if possible.
So, this year, I was, it seems, my own worst enemy. ;D
2019, just you wait! ;)
-
Frustrating when some people can't think outside of the box...
-
Looks great. Nice work
-
Not being as familiar with armor as aircraft HMBLT looks RW in design, details, and finish to me. Congrats on your fine build.
-
Thanks, guys!
As I said, Greg, the guys were trying to be as helpful as they could. The judging is technically based & has a references component, without references I got 0/10 for that component which was why more than one of my models failed to place. I can understand & accept that. After all, if a guy building a RW subject has to show references relating to that subject, so should I, even if it's just a run-down of my mental processes (which, if I'm honest, could sent them all slightly loopy to start with :-\ & be of some significant advantage to me ;)).
-
Not an unusual outcome for Whiffs there Wombat I 'spose. Personally you deserved at least a best in class IMHO ;) I know, I know, which class?
Not that it's right, Whiffs should be judged on the skills (and temerity) used, reality created and the originating ideas. It's a bit difficult to judge a Whiff in the RW
Maybe you should write a background story to support your next Whiff, you know kinda like the one you helped myself to develop for one of my ideas (now up to 15 ideas, they seem to breed in one's unconscious don't they ;) )
Cheers mate, better luck next time
-
I have trouble stopping the buggers! I think I'm one of Pratchett's inspiration magnets ... but I only get the weird
sh... stuff! :-\
They all have back stories & most of them link into my Royal Australian Marines alt. hist., so maybe I'll have to work on that (it's still stuck in early WW1).
PS: Mind you, my FV521AS Warrior 90mm FSV scored a Mentioned in Dispatches!

was there no category specially for what-ifs? Every show I've been to in USA & Canada in the last 10 years has had a what-if category.
-
No, mate, they don't.
Only show I know of in Aus that does is Scale Model Expo, in Melbourne, where they have an "Imagineering" category.
