USAAF P-72 Corsair, England 1944
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:48:31 AM »
This is a build I recently finished.  It was my first one after jumping back in from a 1 year+ break from building.  It's the gorgeous Tamiya 1/48 F4U kit with a mix of decals from the spares box.  The "Little Chief" nose art assumes that this P-72 reached the 61st Pursuit Sqn instead of P-47s.  This makes sense as the Corsair was brought into USAAF service after a Nazi commando raid caused severe damage to the Republic plant in Farmingdale, NY, shutting down P-47 production for several months.

Very Nice.

Greg: How about a GB of Navy A/C in Air Force markings and Air Force A/C in Navy markings?
Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Gorgeous work ... especially the weathering. Good USAAF choice too. That Corsair belly window will be just the ticket for finding RAF Halesworth when the fog rolls in  ;D

Nicely done! Now wondering what a baremetal Corsair with invasion stripes would look like.....
