Disaster !... Well at least an oh bugger...

I said i still had plenty of problems and now ive found one, starting decaling as you guys have really inspired me to crack on... And i encountered a problem im not sure how to fix :(

Yep.. The decals are WAYYY too thin.. And the seagrey is showing through the white... Which means problems for all the roundells AND the diamonds on the front... Hmm plenty of ways i COULD fix it but not sure which is best :/

Any recommendations ?  please ?   lol

That'd be my first approach too. Now that you know, you may be able to find some white or yellow sections of spare decals you can cut to shape for under the others.

Good luck!

You're very patient, Chris. Far more patient than I am. If I had that problem, I'd probably risk it and try to paint over the places where the the colors show through by hand.

Not that I'm known for the most rational or efficient solutions.

What I've done in the past is to use a mask to paint a white circle VERY slightly smaller than the decal, then put the decal over it. Pain to do, but it does work.

That was one option... Only my circular masking isnt good... Straight lines i can do... Circles not so much :(

I only hope Hannants dont take their usual eight zillion months to arrive... Last time i ordered something by the time it turned up i forgot what i'd ordered..  :/

Me neither, so what I did was this:

1. Stick a piece of 18mm Tamiya tape to a piece of glass

2. Cut out the circle using a circle-cutter with a FRESH blade

3. Stick another piece of Tamiya tape over the first one to act as a "carrier" and preserve the circular shape. Make sure that the top piece of tape has "tabs" so that you can separate it from the bottom one again.

4. Peel both pieces of tape off the glass and apply to the model

5. Peel off the top piece of tape to leave a perfectly circular mask on the model

Chris, it might be easier to paint the roundels on blank decal paper so you can have multiple attempts without worrying about possible mistakes directly on the model.

RIGHT ! most of the decals on now.... Display base mostly done... Pictures soon once my new booth thing arrives  :D

Question though... On the subject of dressing up my base.... Did Seahawks leak at all ? Anywhere in particular ?

It's a real treat to see this one come together, Chris!

I can't speak specifically to Seahawks, but in general, there might be leaks of hydraulic fluid near the landing gear, flaps and speedbrakes. Perhaps a little jetfuel on the ground tarmac where it could've spilled if groundcrew weren't careful with the hose.

Hope this helps,

After much talk on more JMN forums than this... The upper serials have now been removed... Despite the instructions saying i should have serials on both the underside AND top of the wings... Apparently this made the JMN's angry... As this is wrong... oops lol

To be fair i thought it looked odd...

You're much kinder than I am, Chris. I'd have left them on just to annoy them. Besides, I like the way they look. But it's your model and I'm just glad to be along to see where you take it.

This way, you've got the best of both worlds. The end result is accurate but you annoyed JMNs anyway  ;D
