BIG 777X model and some 1/100 Boeings I 'assembled' ...
« on: July 27, 2016, 08:58:27 AM »

At the Future of Flight/Boeing Tour in Everett, WA, a peak behind the curtains while they were preparing a new display.
The models in boxes are eight 1/100 models from Pacific Miniatures that I epoxied together for their display, they didn't want little
hands to be able to pull parts off.  737-800, 737-MAX8, 747-8i, 767-300F, 777-300CR, 777-9X, 787-8 and 787-10.
;)

The 777X was all resin, most were resin fuselages with solid injection-moulded ABS wings etc., the 737s were all
ABS including the solid one-piece fuselages. They are extremely well moulded and finished and it's easy to see
why PacMin are a major player in their field.

I still haven't seen the completed display, probably go over next week.

The 777-9X is freakin' enormous, the new wing is very different from the original and the engine nacelle diameter is mind-boggling.
Here's a shot of the assembled 1/100 model with a 1/100 Tamiya Mig-19:

Wow!  What a beast of a model.  Great work Jon!

Jon: If the 777X is 1/100, then the smaller planes are 1/400, 1/500?

Please send pictures when the display has been made public.

Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to purchase the 777X model?  :o

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

bloody hell that's big!!  :o I'd never have the room to display that one! What will happen to it after the display?

The models in the boxes are the 1/100 ones I put together, no idea on scale of the big beast they had
trucked in.
I doubt that the 1/100 777X is yet generally available, as it's all resin it tells me PacMin hasn't yet
tooled/are working on the moulds for a production model. PacMin is a huge player in the trade-show
model, display mockup world. All the other kits had standard production part numbers etc., on the tabs
the 777 had felt marker job number and worker name, in this case Leilani, on the tabs.
A production version will be several hundred dollars, the prototype one I handled probably a lot more.

OK, list price on the Boeing Store for the 747-8i in 'Sunrise livery' (orange)
like the one I assembled is $550, ditto the current 777, so when the 777X
are available it'll be in that range.

That's some mighty fine work on the 777 Jon!

Hoping to see shots of the rest of your work on the display!

Thanks Jon. I messed up on the scale. I though the big 777X was 1/100.

Carl,

I made the same mistake, thinking the huge 777 model in the background was the model that Jon had been describing.  Taking a second and third look, that large display model on the stand is definitely much larger than 1:100, might be more like 1:50th scale.  What ever scale it is huge.

Wish PacMin had just the engines/pylons for sale as they would make an excellent means of putting four new engines on a B-52 just for shiggles.  ;)

YES!!! I love that idea! Especially if the B-52 got sharklets, too  ;D

Jon, that is a gorgeous piece of work. What a stunning finish! Apart from the A380 and 787 I'm not a fan of modern airliners, but that is pretty.

Can we order a gross of GE90s in 1/72?

Jon, a 777 pulled into a gate near where I was working today, it looked like it had that style of wing. But what is the difference between the older 777 and this one. Apart from the engine nacelles that is ---

Newer versions of the current 777 have an angled wingtip, however this is quite different from the smooth,
swept 787-style wingtip of the new composite 777X wing, the new wing has greater span and chord, folding tips
and less sweep angle. Folded span of the 777X is the same as the current 777-300, unfolded is 7 meters greater.

This illustrates the differences:

Great PDF! And thanks for the link  :)

...So this could get expensive fast. I'm a sucker for twin engine Boeing Airliners. That 777 looks like engines with an airliner attached  :-* The latest 737 has the same look  :) Really great to see all these
