Crossing : F-111 and Viking/Asterix winged helmet
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:12:16 AM »

Hi all,

well, here is another of my experiments in chance meetings on a dissectingXXXXXXXX modeling table.

Actually, it is not chance in the sense of randomness, but it corresponds to the observation of a similarity, even it it concerns only a quite specific aspects of each of the two.

Both have wings, of course, but more than that, both are equipped with the very special feature of variable geometry.
They can change the orientation of their wings, usually in a symmetric, synchronized way.

Hence the idea of trying this crossing of a F-111 (more precisely : EF-111 Spark VArk, 1/48, HobbyCraft)

and a Viking / Asterix helmet (1/1, brand unknown)

The colors are, as usual with me, red yellow and blue, because I like them, and they put the emphasis on the shape of things, with no precise historical connotations.

So here goes the helmet with F111 wings, in two configurations :

and its reciprocal, with wings open, and closed :

quite some fun ideed  ;) in the design, and the buidling,

although it was a bit complicated to have the Asterix wings attached to the F111 in an sufficiently solid way ...

Looks like something from the 1939 World's Fair or an old Flash Gordon serial.

The colors are very well chosen and add to the classic look!

VIKINGS,DID NOT WEAR HELMETS WITH HORNS ON THEM !!!!!!   Astrix was a Gaul who lives in Roman times long before the Viking age.  Gauls did wear helmets with both wings and horns.

Very interesting take on your models.  I like your take on the aircraft  but the helmet is too Buck Rogers for my taste. Now ,what will you do for an encore ??   You have some very interesting ideas.
I may be old but I'm not dead ... yet anyway ... !!!    And NO I did not know Richard III !!!!!!

ok, the Asterix reference is more obvious indeed, but Vikings might be better known, the approximation is evocative

The helmet is indeed a bit less spectacular, and has a superhero feel, but some people prefer it to the aircraft it seems

I have other ides in stock, possibly even worse  ;D

thanks for your appreciation, the coloring is a bit constrained but that's the way I like it!  ;)
