I'd buy that just for the engine. Got a project I want to build ----
-
I've got to keep an eye out for this one!
It'd be fun to give it swept wings & tail.

Nice. Pity about the scale.
I only saw the real thing in London a couple of weeks ago too. ;)
-
Perfect scale and it's got to be better than the old Frog kit. The engine looks great!
-
Very nice looking, indeed. 'Twill be interesting to see what they do next (dare I hope for a hawker P.1052 and P.1081?).
-

I feel the same, but I have to admit I mainly want to turn the engine into two or three Death Ray Projectors...

Well my project is for a RW proposal that I've read about in an AeroMilitaria issue, The Air Ministry was looking for an airframe to test some of Whittles engines (the early ones), the proposal was to mount the engine midship in an Avro Anson. Air intake was a duct from the nose then around the pilot, the exhaust was bifurcated either side of the rear fuselage. I thought I had some photos of the article but I can't find them right now.

That would be interesting to see.

Hannants now has the kit on it's Future Releases page. No price yet.

Coming soon. 1/72 Tu-143 Reys
The Tupolev Tu-143 Reys was a Soviet unmanned reconnaissance aircraft in service with the Soviet Army and a number of its Warsaw Pact and Middle East allies during the late 1970s and 1980s. It contained a reconnaissance pod that was retrieved after flight, and from which imagery was contained.

I wish the Tu-143 was in 1/48 or even 1/35.

I wonder if they will consider doing a Tupolev Tu-123 Yastreb:

Coming out in 2019! 1:48th scale Douglas A2D Skyshark!
Really glad to see this subject being produced. I hope they do a decent kit. Of course anything will be better than the old MicroScale kits that I currently have in protective custody.

Don't be too sure of that. The Mach2 one is an abortion of a kit...

The RarePlane vacuform isn't too bad, and the Anigrand kit is good too. 1/72 though.

So buying 2 of these kits was a bad idea? :o
-
The Skyshark looks like a whiff in a box anyway. Maybe the inaccurate kits could be good whiff fodder.
-
I only bought one of the Mach2 kit and it will be gently whiffed into a production version with a T54 replacing the T40.
-
I have a 1/48 Dynavector one that is going to be merged with either a AD-4W or AD-5

It'll have to go a long ways to improve on the accuracy of the Dynavector kit, hopefully they
don't fornicate the canine.

^ That is so cool. 8) Never thought I'd see a new Frelon in 1/72.
Clear Prop also have a new 1/72 Su-25 Frogfoot in the works. I'm gonna have to get so many of those. :icon_beer:
-
Definitely a good thing for fans of the Super Frelon. Still hoping to see a decent 1:48th scale Super Frelon. The old Heller 1:35th scale Super Frelon is Yuuuuuuuge and quite detailed but the size is a real obstacle for any display shelf.

I too once had the big Heller kit. I remember we went to the LHS five minutes before closing, I was panicking over what I wanted, I selected the Super Frelon. I was maybe 12. What resulted was not a build worth posting here ;D

70 years ago on May 26, 1950, the first flight of the XA2D-1 prototype Douglas A2D Skyshark took place. That's why today we are pleased to announce new project of Clear Prop Models the A2D SkyShark in the ONE TRUE SCALE of 1/72 scale.

I guess I took one for the team on this, I have a limited run 1/72 kit of the A2D-1 in my stash along with bits and pieces to improve it.
I'm thinking an operational A2D-2 with a T54 replacing the T40 would look good (T54 bears the same relationship to the T56 that the T40 does to the T38).
-
I'll almost certainly get one to build as in service, but I'll wait and see if Clear Prop do their usual two boxings, one standard and the other advanced. They are nice kits and build well, but the advanced are a little wasted on my clumsy fingers and screwed eyesight, so I'd rather the standard.

I have two of the Mach 2 kits (can be saved) and why even bother to make it since it's really just a lump of resin: the Merlin mould.

The Skyshark is only slightly smaller than the similar Tu-91 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-91).
-
OOOH :icon_surprised: looking super fine
-
Very nice!! It makes me think of doing an operational A2D-2 with a T54 replacing the T40. Perhaps a USAF one in SEA camouflage?
-
Why not a T56? It would be lighter and have more power. You'd still need 2, unless there's an engine with twice the power.
Add a second seat for an "observer" or weapons officer and have a US version of the Tupolev 91.

Not much, really, as the T56 was developed from the T38 and the T40 was two T38 gas generators on a common gearbox whereas the T54 was two T56 gas generators on a common gearbox.

Why not a T56? It would be lighter and have more power. You'd still need 2, unless there's an engine with twice the power.
Because the T54 is essentially two T56's with a common gearbox, much as the T40 was two t38's with a common gearbox.

TB2s are quite compact, but I wonder if you could scale-o-rama this into a manned aircraft.
