Title: Commemorative Starfighter ?
Post by: Chris on February 16, 2012, 08:25:59 PM
This was built for a "Theme Build" on another Forum, but I thought I'd post her here as well :

Something unusual for me, a jet

F.104G Starfighter of Jagdbombergeschwader 51 (Boelke) in it's 1984 air show finery.

Yup it's a Luftwaffe Starfighter in WWI colours or to be precise the colours of Richard Flashar's Albatross D.V of Jagdstaffel 5 July 1917. Flown in the 1984 air show season by Flashar's great grandson, a modern day Luftwaffe pilot.

Kit is the Italeri one with the transfers coming from the kit and the Eduard Albatross Jasta 5 boxing for the individual markings.

Nice simple basic build. Quite enjoyable but it was strange building an aircraft model without a prop.

Sweet!

I assume this is real world - any photos of the real bird to compare to?

Considering that "Jagdbombergeschwader 51 (Boelke)" is actually Jagdbombergeschwader 31 (Boelke) in the real world; I'd assume otherwise. ;)

But then we both know better than to make too many assumptions on a WHIFF geared web site. ;D

The first step is always the most difficult.  Next thing you know we will be seeing you showing up with a Gloster Meteor ;)

You can always keep telling yourself that the propeller blades are there but much smaller and on the inside instead of the outside.

Absolutely gorgeous work there!!!  You can always do an operational version of the turboprop Meteor  ;)

Nope, although it's something you could see the Lufwaffe doing. Just WWI heraldry on a modern era jet

Put that down to a dodgy instruction sheet  :-\
