Title: Flakpanther finished
Post by: Feldmarschall Zod on December 14, 2011, 09:22:01 AM
This is the older Dragon kit,in the orange box label. The Panther base is the ex Gunze sangyo kit. They included the DML magic tracks. I replaced the kits 37mm barrels with some metal 55mm barrels. The kit came with only two tow shackles.I had to add some metal ones. No tow cables with the kit. Karaya to the rescue.

Holy crap :want: :in-love: Nice work. Love those muzzles. Is that a whiff or did they actually do a 55 mm?

This link has some information on the 5.5cm FlakZwilling Panther and it appears that it was nothing more than another "paper panzer" design that never made it to mockup or hardware stage:
Panther Variants 1942-45 - Google Books Results (http://books.google.com/books?id=4LjRNypV-rsC&pg=PA43&lpg=PA43&dq=5.5cm+Flakzwilling+Panther&source=bl&ots=X3eZFEJv2a&sig=slcxy8MZ8x1VLO58aPBT6JTxAH0&hl=en&ei=ItnoTvvCEKSLiAKEor3nCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&sqi=2&ved=0CFQQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=5.5cm%20Flakzwilling%20Panther&f=false)

I like the design of the turret and it could be adapted with minimal issue to other large tank hulls.  I recall Chad creating something very similar to this based on the M26 Pershing or M46 Patton hull as a '46 ground war subject on the other site a few years back.

It's always a treat to see some armor and it looks like you'll have that type well represented, Zod! I really like the barrels & camo scheme. I can't wait to see this one roll!

Most excellent! Armor always looks cool because of the amount of detail. Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

Thanks everyone. I have to redo some of the camo a bit. A tip from your Uncle Zod. When airbrushing camo,it helps to have a fine line needle in,instead of a high flow nozzle. :zombie:

Excellent paintwork, Michaelangelo! That shine makes it look museum-quality.

Nice work, especially on the barrels!
I take it, after the gloss coat, a matt coat will be applied and some weathering?

Cheers
John

Thanks John.
I apply a pinwash on recessed and raised details over a gloss coat. The pin wash flows easier that way. Then the clear flat coat, followed by weatherin.

I seem to have bad luck with pin washes. :slow: On a BTR70 I am working on,I applied a pin wash a single time over the gloss coat. After a few days,I applied the clear flat coat. The pin wash seemed to disappear. So I figured I would apply the pin wash twice.
This is the result. Hopefully the weathering will tone the wash down.

Treads normally don't do anything for me, but I do appreciate a good looking model.  Very nice Zod.

Glad to see that your worry over the pinwash was unfounded, I think the weathering is freakin' awesome as is the overall model. (http://www.doomisland2.com/images/avatars/3771.gif)

A show-stopper all the way, Zod! I still can't believe you can turn out these wonders from a workspace in a semi. Just incredible!!!
