The trek warriors are having things entirely too much their own way around here...time to show that
 lot the power...of STEAM!!!
for starters, read with awe and wonder the tale of

 THE STEAM MEN!

( Plenty of pictures after the link-I'm always a little leary of posting images directly from a site...)

Your prodigious appettities thus whetted, I enjoin you to proceed to the informative directory of

The Google Difference engine compendioum of topics pertaining to THE DYNAMITE GUNS!!!

 ( I especially suggest
looking at the entry on the Sims-Dudley field piece. many of you will already be familiar with the
Zalinski devices, but I think this one will be new to many.

I have discovered SteamPunk (adn other derivatives) relatively a short time ago, but I am loving all the creative possibilities it has.
Thanks for this thread.

There was, sort of...The Fowler Armored Traction Engine. I hadn't been to the LANDSHIPS site in far too long,
but was delighted to discover an article detailing its history, with some fine drawings. Enjoy!

Along the lines of this thread,. I recently saw a book in Barnes & Noble that collected information from all the Frank Reade, Jr. stories of the late 1800's and collated them as a biography of the fictional character all with his many inventions; there's lots of inspiration here.

Given the large variety and general availability of figures, would a project such as that be done in 1/35 backslash 54mm?

... and, of course, there is always Boilerplate:

Boilerplate being the creation of Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, their most recent work is the Frank Read volume
mentioned by Evan.

On the "to do" list is a steampunk gunship-airship using a Revell Zeppelin NT scaleorama'd to 1/76th (it's a shade bigger than the Hindenburg kit), an Airfix Stevenson's rocket, some HaT gatling gun sets to arm it and some HaT gardner-gun sets to provide mountings and Royal Imperial Airship Service crew. Biggest problem will be fitting it all in: the envelope might need a stretch to make the gondola long enough....

Okay, now y'all have me wondering how steam punk would cross with the world of the Space:1899 game et al.

Wonder no more, young seeker! For the aspect of Dramatic Parlour Gaming has been explored by the
 stalwart crew at FORGOTTEN FUTURES!

No "Space: 1889/99" specific references, but the FF role-playing system is on display, along with
a dizzying host of period reprints ( all public domain ) and reference material. So profusely illustrated
you'll need an absinthe' ( or two ! ) to calm your nerves after perusal!

Fact is stranger than Fiction !!
several of those, ie .... the Atlantic Tunnel http://www.forgottenfutures.co.uk/express/express.htm
are actually passe' by Victorian times -- that story written in 1895 by Michel Verne (Jules' son) is just a description of the short Beach Pneumatic Railway that opened for public use in New York on February 26, 1870 ... tho it did not last very long due to other commercial items (the elevated railway) having more powerful backers.  The photos of the Beach system show it to be much fancier than the one in that article of Vernes !!

The remains of the Beach Railway tunnel and a carriage were unearthed in 1912 during the extension of the Broadway subway -- sadly nothing was retrieved for a museum.  Today, apart from the boiler of the steam-engine that powered the air-pump, the remains are buried under the concrete of a larger building.

What if we had trams like this one which is only 4ft high (sitting room only) & pass by climbing over each other on a single track >>>>>>

They're electric but how about powering them by steam ??

Despite much searching I've failed to find out who designed / built these trams.  All I know is that they were at a US funfair circa late 1930s/50's & apear in the strange-inventions film "Gizmo".

Some great figure ideas here.

And while this one doesn't give too much modeling information, there is just something about it...
