CMP 15 CWT in North Africa (Cosa stavo pensando?)
« on: April 24, 2020, 04:13:31 AM »
A complimenting pair of unfinished Italeri 1:35th Canadian Military Pattern 15 cwt trucks, in Italian service. These were started back in the day when I was doing RECAM (Raggruppamento Esplorante del Corpo d'Armata di Manovra - Reconnaissance Group of the Mobile Army Corps*) models (because *everybody* made LRDG models. Or Rat Patrol).

Meddlesome Commonwealth officer shown for scale.

One fitted with a 3.7cm Bofors M1934 AT gun, the other with a FIAT M14 M1935 heavy machinegun.

* Applicable -

The 2 GGFF Battalions had, in total; 27 LMG & 15 20mm Solothurn heavy ATk Rifles (exact distribution of ATRs not known). I believe the Gruppo’s MG Company, and Mortar & Gun Platoons were “created” once the unit reached Libya and suitable heavy weapons had been acquired! Hence, they do not sometimes appear in OOBs.

By January 1942 it had been decided to form the 136th “GGFF” Armoured Division, using the GGFF combat group already in Libya (which was expanded to a full Regiment), and adding armor and artillery as it became available. During the Gazala and 1st Alamein campaigns, before anything further had been done, the unit operated as an independent Infantry Regiment first under the direct command of Supreme Headquarters, Italian Forces North Africa, and later attached to the 102nd Trento Motorized Division.

The CMP kits were both built by others, think I snagged them in a box of other stuff.

https://www.scalemates.com/kits/italeri-233-15-cwt--135092

1) The Fiat-armed truck obviously needs a driver/codriver sunscreen, probably painted Red/White/Green as an Air Recognition Symbol.

The M1914 tripod had a lost leg (thanks to one of the house felines) replaced. I think I'll be done with that one at that point.

I *think* I made the M1935 out of scrap. Details -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat%E2%80%93Revelli_Modello_1935

2) The Bofors-armed truck needs a cargo bed sunscreen, again marked for Air Recognition. Stowage needs to be tweaked and the paint job finished.

I stopped work on the TOM Modellbau Bofors at the gun shield.

3) Background readings and photo inspirations.

You had my attention at "Solothurn 20mm ATR" :smiley:

Looks like you have some work cut out for you in getting these finished.

Everyone needs a Solothurn S-18/1000 in their life!
