Parts & Pieces Part 1
« on: February 19, 2012, 12:40:47 AM »
A few years back, Frank3k sent me a Big Box O' Parts. The box was bigger than my TV. Included was a 1/72 Bell X-1 which Frank was in the middle of detailing when he relegated it to the box and my cave-man like modeling skills.

Here's how it looked after I chopped off the nose (sorry Frank) and sorted out all the new parts for this project:

Last night I grafted on the new jet-intake nose (formerly from a MiG) and the tailplanes. Then it got a coat of paint and the canopy went on.  Now the detail paintwork is drying and I hope to have updated pics for you soon.

Ok here she is all together and painted. I love black paint. It covers a multitude of sins.

Decals tomorrow. I hope.

It's got that crazy late '50s Russian look - Lavochkin maybe?  Though it could also be Canadian I suppose... ;)

I'm glad I can keep you in suspenders, Mr GTX.

I've been on a real modeling streak. I was working on this other project that got completely bogged down and doing something a little simpler was just the tonic I needed.

Now off to some delayed late Valentinin' with my girlfriend. Did you know some ladies consider alfredo sauce an aphrodesiac?

Comrades!!! Is glorious day in Great Albanian People's Republic! Much is achieved through Comrade Skrvplk's leadership and efforts of Albanian Aerospace Workers' Collective to bring new defender of peaceful Albanian skies from running dog western imperialist lackeys!

Gaze in awe upon latest stealth technology only obtained through careful study of socialist principle of Strength through Gulags! Notice powerful engine to propel our wonder defense airplane to great heights! The capitalists will tremble in fear of our new air fighter's guns! See how razor-thin wing gives great speed. Wing is not thin because of shortage of steel. This is more lies of western anti-socialist propaganda.

Comrades, our Albanian Streak-Sky will keep the warmongers at bay and show the world greatness of our industry and happy workers as we march as one to new dawn of Great Albanian Proletariat!

Here's a few more pics.

The decals are courtesy of Mr Fontaine and I wanted to thank him and Frank3k. Without their generosity, none of this would've been possible.

Amazing! Is that the nose cone from the 1/48 Mig-21? I am shocked at how good this product of the People's Republic of Albania looks!

I'm sure Enver Hoxha would first challenge you to a manly fist fight, then down a bottle of fine Albanian vodka with you before hiring you as his chief aviation designer! (because that's how promotions were done in Old Albania!)

<snip>

That MiG-21 is 1/48 scale? Yikes! And here I thought it was 1/72! Thanks for sending me the Big Box O' Parts, Frank. Apologies for what I'm going to do to the rest of them...

It may have been a 1/72 Leoman Su-9... did it have deep trenches for panel lines? I can't remember if the one I sent you had its panel lines filled in/reduced.

Whatever you do to the box o' parts will be good and certainly better than sitting around unloved!

Chairman of the Democratic Front and Commander-in-Chief Hoxha would indeed salute the heroic efforts of the glorious Albanian proletarian. But his challenge to potential design bureau chiefs would be more manly and traditionally Albanian -- binge-drinking Pear Rachiu while mud-wrestling goats in a ripe wheat field! Gëzuar!
