Ed's Profiles
« on: June 19, 2017, 02:40:17 PM »

Greetings all,

Allow me to introduce myself,

My name is Ed Jackson and I am a USAF veteran living in Okinawa, Japan. I primarily did avionics maintenance on F-15Cs before finishing four years of active duty.

I got into plane profiles about a year ago, originally starting with Volkswagen Beetle profile drawings.
Here is a selection from some of my work. I focus on hyper realism as much as I can. I am a casual aviation fan, and I learn about these aircraft as I do research to illustrate them.

I have been meaning to get into a community like this for some time.

My site is www.artbyedo.com

I also operate a plane info project: www.plane-encyclopedia.com
I am in need of writers and artists for this project. I have a little help now but not nearly enough. Please contact me if interested!

Welcome to the Beyond The Sprues forums Ed.  You have certainly made a splendid introduction of your work and abilities.  Glad to have you here!

Welcome, Ed! Those are lovely profiles! The Lansen in particular is a favorite of mine and I love the subtle detail on that. You can make out the panel lines, but only if you going looking for them. Not an easy trick on a profile, but very "right" on a subject like that.

Cheers,

Logan

Thanks for all the kind words thus far. I hope to keep sharing my progress. Next up will probably be the F-14 Tomcat!

The style looks like you use a vector art program, is that correct?

Cheers,

Logan

Logan pretty much said what I was going to. Lovely work, Ed  :)

Good eye. That's correct, I only use Adobe Illustrator CC.

Absolutely gorgeous work, I love both your aviation and automotive work.  Any chance of you doing a Cosmos 110S sports car?

Also, do you do commissions of "what-if" aircraft?

It's possible I could do a Cosmo in the future, it's an absolutely fascinating machine.

I'll do "what-ifs" only if they aren't too time consuming! Any requests ATM?

BTW I need help finding out what the text is on the side of this F-15's intake ramp: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Air-Force/McDonnell-Douglas-F-15A-Eagle/4222187
Where would I go on this forum for help on that?

Well, there's the F-15 thread in the Aerospace sub-forum of Inspirations.  You might also ask over on http://www.secretprojects.co.uk where a lot of interesting folk hang out.  Beyond that, you might see if any of the F-15 manuals available online (or on ebay) have that data.

Only "low effort" whiffs that occur to me at the moment are a F-14B/F-14A+ in Blue Angels markings and a F-15 in Thunderbirds markings (or, for grins, swap them, an ADC F-14B in Thunderbirds markings and a navalized F-15 in Blue Angels markings).
