Profile artwork from Osprey's Ki-61 and Ki-100 Aces
« on: January 04, 2016, 08:04:23 AM »
Happy New Year all!

Last year I completed the illustrations for Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces #114 on Ki-61 and Ki-100 Aces, written by Nicholas Millman of www.aviationofjapan.com. Since the book has meanwhile been published, I'd like to show you a few samples.

Research by Nick and myself.

They look superb. Did you do any whiffs and can they be viewed on any other site as I'm not on Facebook?

Beautiful art...
I think the Ki-61-II (with longer nose?) was even more beautiful, will you try? And what about a what-if total-vision Ki-61 like the corresponding Ki-100?

Hey Ronnie,

I know I complimented your beautiful Tony profiles on Facebook on just about the day the book came out, but it definitely bears repeating. They're fantastic, and an inspiration for my own profiles. I've been busy lately with a lot of work and personal goings-on, but I really need to get back to my He 100s. I fully expect more than one of them in the future will take their schemes from your lovely Ki-61s.

I especially love the lighting where the tail meets the fuselage and the Ki-100's radial fuselage fairing under the cockpit, especially!

Cheers,

Logan

My apologies for taking over six years to reply!  :o

Thanks very much for your kind comments, I am glad you like them!

Tophe, I think the bubble-top Ki-61-II Kai is one of the finest-looking fighters of WW2 and I definitely plan to make a profile of this at some point. So far I've identified three operational machines, so it's definitely a proper WW2 fighter and not merely a what-if.

Speaking of what-ifs, Ifor I've attached a bare metal Ki-100. The Ki-100 looks so nice like this, but sadly all Ki-100s were delivered in camo paint.

Hate to tell you this, Skyraider, but there's no such thing as "merely a what-if"; especially on this site, where 90%+ of the builds (both physical & digital) are what-ifs. ;)
