By the early 60's it was apparent to Fiat and Avia that they couldn't survive trying to compete globally with the big a/c companies and their big supersonic, high altitude super fighters. But it was also becoming clear that COIN and Civil Wars were likely to be the wave of the future rather than big powers battling in all-out massive warfare. The G-73 was designed to be simple to operate, able to operate out of unimproved forward airfields. It fly and maneuver at lower altitudes and airspeeds than the big fast jets that were getting all the attention. It's low speed low, altitude capabilities combined with a pair of 20mm cannons and six weapons stations meant the pilot could find the target and bring effective firepower to the enemy. It proved to be a successful design and a number were sold internationally and were successful in local conflicts around the globe.

Irish Air Corps FMA IA-58 Pucará
Captured from Argentina in the Falklands War, these aircraft were transferred from the UK to Eire when the latter's government got into a confrontation with the IRA. The model is the Airfix reboxing of the Special Hobby one, with IAC roundels from an Airfix Magister and the rest from the spares box. The BOZ pod came from an Italeri(?) Tornado and the EO pod was scratchbuilt from a map pin and an interdental brush cover.
