M113AS4 in 28mm (1/56) - whatif becomes reality.
« on: September 03, 2015, 09:19:45 PM »
Years ago we (my inner sanctum modelling friends) were making Twilight2000 (1/72 wargame ruleset) inspired armoured vehicles (falling short of PPCs on Abrams...)  Among some of the designs were pre-Bradley MICVs based on M113s ( Think longer, slopier, beefier, turretyer..)   and today we got one for real.

I was commissioned to build some AS4s for a wargamer in 1/56 so out with the plastic card and off we go.

These certainly look like the business. Just don't anybody show them to Sparky.

Now that's cool. Any plans to make one in 1/35?

Woo hoo, actually worked with several people who worked the AS4 project, one was an engineer on the turret, one a structural / welding engineer who looked after the stretch and the rest were in roles such as CM, supply chain etc. So much talent and so much effort, over so much time and so much money for so little capability :(

I hope they at least fixed the hold open latch on the drivers hatch as many a crew member (including me) was injured, maimed or killed by hatches slamming shut on them.

The sad thing is they actually look pretty cool.

I like these, how much are the 1/72nd scale ones please/ I am also in the UK, and if feasible, would like some separate turrets unless they are molded as one.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hello Chris - go to www.uncleles.net and we can pick this up via the contact form there. It is a single piece casting but I can do separate turrets especially for you !

I decided to take one of my solid castings, hollow it out, rebuild the interior and sides from plasticard, add a Trumpeter & Esci floor & running gear and make a half decent model out of it !

That kind of 1/72 armor detail-quality is so beyond me.  Impressed with what you accomplished. :)
