Tricycle Mitrovich MMS-3 drawing
« on: November 06, 2013, 11:10:21 AM »
When I was playing like Historian, I wanted to include the tricycle-landing-dear version of the Mitrovich MMS-3 as 1939-45 twin-boom prototype, but I wanted to escape the Copyright on the photograph found on the Web, so I should make a drawing of my own. I planned to do it during my holidays 2010 (if I remember well) but I felt too lazy, or too occupied with my young son, and I never finished it. Till now, with this "clear your workbench" challenge...
I have to find on my hard drive the very first lines that I drawed, then I should finish it.

My (un-finished) vectorizing file of the 3-view drawing (that I found on the Web also) is dated 2008/12/18, older than I thought. This was before I was a father, for my December 2008 holidays in the Philippines.

Now I should :
1/ finish the vectorizing
2/ make the nose wheel version profile, with the help of the photograph
3/ play inventing other derivatives, what-if side

Yes, thanks Queeg: at step 3, the MMS-3Q will be a floatplane (and the MMS-3E will be a flying boat, for dear Ericr not to be jealous), while the MMS-3T (T for Tophe) will be asymmetric single-engined...

Now at step zero, removing the bitmap background/guide, the starting point is this:

With modern 200-300hp engines it would be a blast to fly and used as Alaska bush plane.

This one seems to go just fine, Tophe.  :)

Since I became the member of this forum, I could see that You're a man with a lots of idea, but being a Serbian, I must point the following: I know that this is what-if forum, but where, in Gods name, You found the names Queegovich and Ericrovich  :o ?

There's even a question is it supposed to be CH or just C at the end (my surname is Petrovic, for example) but this is completely different subject and a matter to translation/transcription. Typical serbian surnames are Jovanovic, Nikolic, Mitrovic, Petrovic, Markovic, Mihailovic, Djordjevic,... (just go wikipedia and type serbian name)

And one more thing... Through history, many yugoslav/serbian aircrafts, if there was a float variant, were usually carrying the designation H (hydro), like Utva 66H, so I think that MMS-3H would be much more simple and quite suitable.

Please, don't get me wrong, but those guys Queegovich and Ericrovich just don't fit  ;)

Sorry, I did not want to insult Serbia at all. I have learned a little Serbo-Croatian in the 1980s (I forgot all).
Translating names is a difficult matter, in Spanish New York is Nueva York, in French London is Londres and so on. French people love Ibrahimovic football player that they may write Ibrahimovitch (I thought nobody care - here many ones pronounce my name as Tofee while in my country this is pronounced Tof, no insult in these misunderstandings, we are here for smiling).
Queeg member had the idea of a float Mitrovic derivative so I called this one Queegovic, and Ericr seaplanes inspired the second one and its colours, thus Ericrovic. As I am the inventor of those profiles, I claim the right to invent names for them. They simply do not exist except in my crazy mind. ;)
Not to turn into politics, I will not discuss here the morality of nationalism (that I dislike always but feel free to like differently).

Now the 2 next ones (last ones?) are the glider version and pusher-version.

Dear Vuk may help finding them a proper code (not the English MMS-3G and P). "Google translate" tells me that glider is једрилица pronounced jedrilica but my memories of Russian Cyrillic tells me this is more ghyedrilitsa, anyway this would be MMS-3J. For pusher, this would be (?) Пусхер pronounced pusher but my memories tells me Puskhyer, anyway this would be MMS-3P. Vuk, is this correct? :)

Well in truth,my friends, I was trying to name an aircraft I'm about to finish. I was totally at a loss as to what names to give as well as location of manufacture. I was wanting something East European but my knowledge there is very thin. What you did was provide a great starting point for me to create it's background. Can't say more yet but I think you should find it interesting. One clue, maybe two is it is a floatplane and it will be in service to Greece ,late 30's ...

Hey, guys!

Tophe, designations for the glider and the pusher variants are completely up to Yours decision. Unlike seaplane/flying boats, such aircrafts were not having some specific designation cliche. Most often, they would be named after a some of engineers from the constructor team, or they would receive the simple designation of exact engine type they used. One confusing example is british Hawker Hurricane Mk I, in service of Royal Yugoslav Air Force. One aircraft was equipped and tested with Daimler-Benz engine from Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3, and it was designated LVT-1 (?). The only thing I was sure is that L stands for Lovac or lovački (fighter), but the other... I just don't have a clue.
Jedrilica is a glider and its pronounce supposed to be Yedrilitsa. The only valuable advice that I could give You is next: when it is about serbian language, forget the Google translate. It's almost useless, in most cases it will give You meaningless translation (like пусхер which not existing in serbian or any other language in Balkans) and I don't recommend it to anyone.

Father Enis, as I said, I can't wait, and now I'm even more inpatient (Ha! Not a single smiley!)

Dear Vuk, there may be a misunderstanding there. As I remember (Polish language and):

Jedrilica is a glider and its pronounce supposed to be Yedrilitsa.

It seems Father Ennis wants to pronounce like the Enflish Georgevich, and he seems to know that many people need a Dj writing for that (in French, John is pronounced ghonn and we would need the writing Djohn to pronounce it well automatically). But you seemed to say that "your" J is pronounced Y (like in Poland) and I am not sure that is what Father wants to pronounce. For example, with your letters, how do you write the Beatles' name George Harrison?

Ok now I'm confused ...   Did I do something wrong ?  I took one of the surnames offered and added to it. The 360H was intended to be equal to 360floatplane and made by the Djordjevic aircraft company.  I just liked the name !  It has that perfect East European ring to it .  Please correct any errors I might have made..

Well, yet another trouble with serbian (facepalm).

I just say that... You're both wright! The designation Father Ennis choose is originally written Ђорђевић. Transcribed in Latin, it could be written as Đorđević, but since in serbian d+j gives dj, it is also correct to write Djordjevic. One of my all-time favorite basketball players is Aleksandar Đorđević, now coaching in Italy. I remember one time, most likely as a result of confusion with serbian/yugoslav names, aome TV station wrote his name as Dordevic. Now, that would be mistake, but Ђорђевић/Đorđević/Djordjević/Djordjevic/Djordjevich is not.

Now, who said the we, Serbs, are not complicated. And why we don't have here an icon for facepalm? And what is correct: facepalm or palmface? That was always confusing me...

Hi, my name is Stephan. I'am a model pilot from Germany and just registered to this board a few minutes ago.
I know, that this is a real old thread, but it motivated me to build a real life model, which will hopefully have its first flights very soon.
It is the H-version, a flying boat.

Welcome aboard! That's a nice looking model - what's it made of? I'll be interesting to hear how it flies; you'd think that the origial designers would have used a twin tail, to put the prop wash to some good use.

Hi,
sorry for late reply, just came back from a four days waterflying event.
Aeroput MMS3 YU-SAR-H  is made from Depron foam. I used carbon fiber with epoxy to give some strength to the structure where needed.
She had her maiden flight during the event and she flies fantastic. I had to do a lot of trimming and some changes to the mixes, but after that she is now very easy to fly. There will be video soon.

Thanks.
The first minute was difficult, because trims were off, but after that was sorted out she flies like a trainer.
I stumbled over this thread a few years ago and started the build six months ago. Next thursday i will take her to one of the biggest german waterflying events at Edersee and show to the public. I'am sure people will like.

Nice video! I didn't see the alligator go after your plane or the SR Princess!

Thanks.
Alligator and SR Princess are operated by same guy, so no risk for the Princess.
I was simply lucky...  ;)
