Interesting that they've gone for a single-seat turret when the trend so far has been for two-seaters. I approve of this: the volume cost of a two-seat turret often means the infantry get pushed out of their own vehicle. Also interesting that they've not gone for a remote weapon station. Like Jeff says, the turret has been proposed for all sorts of other vehicles so it's fertile ground for whiffery.

Seems like as good a place as any to ask this question, what are Heller ship hits like in terms of accuracy and quality?  Do they build up ok or are they a lot of work and maybe not worth the effort?

Soon from Heller is a Fergy ... it may be the original pre-Airfix kit cleaned up tho why it's not marketed by Airfix is beyond me.

Different scale and far more parts than the old Airfix kit, and, according to those who should know,
the old Airfix moulds are long gone.

We have recently heard that Heller have been declared bankrupt and no buyer has yet been found. It might be a good idea to stock up with Heller kits

Oh dear. Guess I'll have to buy a couple more of their Viggens now for planned projects (though, for whiffing purposes and for me personally, Matchbox would also suffice, except that they are rather steeply priced on Evilbay - on the other hand, aftermarket Rb 04's plus Heller kit almost equal the price of Matchbox kit so have to think about this carefully).

That's sad news. I've not built a Heller kit for some time but, like Matchbox, they have some unique offerings.

Was visiting the Heller web page today in search of kit instructions in pdf format.  I was very happy to discover some of the model kits do have a download link for the kit instructions in pdf format.

Unfortunately the 1:35th scale Super Frelon was not among the kits with instructions available for download :(

These would be repops of the old moulds, I guess - fresh out of insolvency they wouldn't design new moulds for kits that have old ones still available?

The 1/35 desert well on pg. 6 would look great with an M3 from "Sahara" - although you'd have to find a Bogart figure. There's a 1/35 figure available, but it looks more like Jim Belushi from the 1995 film.

They really seem to be pushing the "glue, paint and brush" kit combos, though. Meh for me, but there must be a market.

Heller is about to be reborn according to this announcement posted at HyperScale:

Quote
Heller and Glow2B Germany, by François Verdu (REPLIC)To all those interested in the development of Heller and Glow2B Germany.

For more than 60 years the construction kits of the Heller brand were developed and produced in Normandy, France by experienced staff.

The Heller brand and its over 400 products were acquired by Glow2B Germany.

Glow2B Germany originated from “Heller Deutschland”, the erstwhile German subsidiary. Today Glow2B Germany GmbH is one of the largest distributors of plastic models in Europe. Its strengths are a remarkably high availability of its over 24,000 active products, fast delivery, flexibility and the new Easy-to-buy-System which allows for easy ordering by traders, and delivers all requested information  in a fast and reliable manner.

Soon a new company Heller will come into being. It will be the owner of the brand Heller and the over 1,500 steel moulds for the production. This company will undertake all future investments in new products and marketing. One of the first investments will be for the long awaited model of the [Renault] ESTAFETTE.

Other projects are already in the pipeline. The focus of future development will be on models with a link to the French market and French modelers. This means historic ships, airplanes and vehicles. Military vehicles in 1:35 or 1:72 were never a strong side of Heller and will not be so in the future either.

A team of French and German modelers has been formed to work on future projects. Other nationalities however are also welcome. The team will meet in Normandy, France and in Germany.

We are happy that Eric David will be the team leader. Eric has been working to revive the Heller brand for several years. With a renewed and strong focus on the Modeling Theme Eric will be responsible for the distribution and marketing of the Heller brand. At the same time he will help build the distribution in France of the other brands distributed by Glow2B Germany.

We will be back with much additional and exiting information in the coming weeks.

Instead of a model company closing forever it sounds like they are trying to rebuild and come back stronger. I wish them luck.

Some interesting commercial vehicles like the 1930's bus & Citroen corrugated delivery truck.  Quite a few Italeri molds included.  Prices seem good compared to the contents.

Wonder if any kits have been re-tooled.

Have built a couple of old Heller kits & with a bit of care were good.

One project that tempts me, after reading on Douglas propliners would be to combine AiM's DC-4M conversion with Heller's C-118 to model the unbuilt XC-115.
