To start with, although this is just an optical illusion, this image at first glance made me think of a VTOL Su-25:

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

You can't outrun Death forever.
But you can make the Bastard work for it.

People like to talk about A-10 toughness...well, what about it's Soviet counterpart:

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

You can't outrun Death forever.
But you can make the Bastard work for it.

Interesting Camo:

Speaking of which, what about some Su-25s in Il-2 commemorative schemes?  Such as:

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

You can't outrun Death forever.
But you can make the Bastard work for it.

A few thoughts I had:

Strip out the cannons completely and move the laser into that area so as to make room for an attack radar.

Remove the silly wingtip pods and give it split aileron speed brakes. Perhaps also give it all moving tail planes.

Basically, bring her a bit closer to a Buccaneer than a Warthog.

Combine the Su-39 with the navalized version for a more potent navalized version?

^ Livery is of the Sky Hussars demo team. I don't know whether they're still active, though. Interesting side note: they flew combat sorties over Chechnya in that scheme! :icon_surprised:

EDIT: The Aerofax book on the Su-25 tells me the Sky Hussars were disbanded in 1995 due to budget constraints, only to reappear in 2001, this time flying the L-39.

My guess is this airframe is earmarked for an upgrade to Su-25SM version and the pic was taken during a test flight.
