Yep, certainly a nice looking pile of parts.  Will be interesting to see how this one goes together.  It is definitely nice to see that Academy has covered a fair number of variants with the additional parts in the kit including ordnance.  I noticed that the CyberModeler review left out or just plain did not see the SUU-23 20mm Vulcan Gun Pod that was on the one parts sprue.  The versions of AIM-9 Sidewinders included is amazing.

I remember when the Academy catalog had black and white images in their catalog showing the M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle as a pending and soon to be released model kit.  Then it up and disappeared like vaporware never to be seen again.  Maybe this time they will be inspired to carry through with the M728 and a few other kits based on the M60 and M48.  An affordable AVLB would also be nice as would an up to date and correct M60A2.

Yep, I'd love to see an M728 and an AVLB. What I'd REALLY like to see is a "slick" M60 as well. I have a few "Slick 60s" in my area (and an M728) and would like to have some affordable, all injection kits to model them.

Nah...to prevent such puns the aircraft is fitted with a special sensor that ejects the pilot in such cases...

It's an 'A' model so it doesn't have a lift fan at all.

Looking at the pilot figure again, I think it might be an idea to cast a few copies of the helmet and use them on other advanced fighter whifs.  :)

Thinking about it, I could have sworn I've read an article that the JASDF intends or at least looks at possibilities to update their F-15 cockpits with a set-up similar to the F-35's.

You're right.  My bad.  "A", "B", "C", too many variants.  I still want a "C"!

Remembering which F-35 variant is which is easy.  As we joked on the program:
A is for Asphalt, the Air Force version
B is for Beach, the USMC version
C is for Carrier, the Navy version

Given the commonality designed into the aircraft, you could, if you were willing to pay for it in both money and extra weight, get a F-35A with the probe and drogue refueling set up of the F-35B & C and I'd love to see some country do that for maximum versatility in refueling.

It could be done, but would be an especially-built forward section for that version, combining "C" and "B" specific elements as the "C" nose gear has extra structure and attachments not found on the other variants.

I wonder why they didn't just go that way anyway, instead of going down the old Sea Harrier path --  they had a clean sheet when they were designing the F-35

I'm going to get either this one or the Italeri one, but either way, the first think I would do is sand down all those raised zig-zag lines.  My photos of the real thing show it to be quite smooth all over.  And no panel/rivet  lines what so ever (as in the Fujimi  'B' kit)
