I've not a clue what it is, but I see the potential

Currently a local shopping centre is hosting a big display to generate interest in all avenues of civil aviation. This beastie is in the mix:

I've done a search on the registration code and come up with nothing; the company names on the wings are simply sponsors and trips to their web sites yield nothing. There was no signage or anyone to ask questions to.

It looks like an ultralight or home-built design at any rate.

I thought it looked a bit graceful and a bit mean all at the same time. Build up the central pod enough that it can take retracting landing gear and a bigger engine and we might be going places.  :-*

Looks like fixed landing gear, using a nose from sailplanes and bits from other kit-planes.

Could be a fun single seat sporter.

So there was this Cessna Skymaster sitting at the bar and in walks this cute little BD-5.  After a few drinks, one thing led to another and soon enough, there was much inter-meshing of components resulting in this little love child that you see before you...

Neat looking little aircraft.

My thoughts as well Jeff, it is a very nice looking aeroplane

If you want to troll all through this list, you might find it here--

http://www.abpic.co.uk/reg_list.php?page=6&sort=type_z_a&r=O

I looked through about 10 pages but didn't find it in those but I might have missed it.  Only look though all pages under 'O' though --

Czech aircraft with a number after a three letter rego code (OK-CUD-10) are microlights. Management of microlights is not a role of their civil aviation authority but the Czech light aircraft association. I haven't found a registration list for these guys yet but thought I would update the thread with this information for crowd solving the problem.

Thanks AGRA.

I might just sent them an email and ask directly what it is.

If you are still in the area is it possible to talk to the shopping centre management to get a contact for the people who put the aircraft there?

BTW, I have also posted this over onSecretProjects to see if any of the experts there can help.

It's actually nice to have a puzzle like this challenge us.

In the abpic list I posted, it shows quite a few microlight registrations which start with 'OK', but as there's pages to go through and they're not on alphabetical or numerical order it'll take some time to find it there.  But then looking at the upnorth's photos again, is it 'OK-CUD-1O' or 0K-CUD-10 or really OK-CUD-10, the first letter/number is exactly the same as the last letter/number

I went back to the shopping centre today and someone had put up a modest bit of signage.

They referred to it as an Aeron JK-1 and said it was connected to Brno's Medlanky airport. I couldn't fins any pictures or mention of it on the Medlanky airport or Medlanky aeroclub websites though.

As Medlanky is primarily a sailplane airfield, that would probably explain why the front end of this beastie looks like it came from a sailplane.

I know, but the shopping centre information staff aren't very helpful.

Until I get a reply from the Czech light aircraft association to an email I sent them, that's about the best I've gotten.

According to Matej over on Secret Projects, this has been identified by his friend as the JK-1 "manned UAV" from czech based company Aeron Brno-Medlanky, proposed for high-altitude Earth surveillance.

Thanks, most interesting.

"Manned UAV"  A concept that defeats it's own purpose I guess. ;D

I think it will be one of two things:

  • A prototype where they have a pilot on board initially whilst proving the flight characteristics ...e.g. GAF Pika; or
  • An optionally piloted system where it can fly with or without the pilot

...Or an aircraft that is crewed by a man and a dog. The man's job is to feed the dog, the dog's job is to bite the man is he tries to touch the controls. Hence, a "Manned UAV".
