Title: Ducati 996 HB - La Vincitrice dei Cieli - Revell 1/9
Post by: Antonio Sobral on June 16, 2016, 03:00:39 AM
Good Day Ducati lovers!  8)

This is my personal interpretation of a bike that Ducati will certainly build in a not so distant future, and in Galaxy not so far way….

Ducati 996 HB - La Vincitrice dei Cieli.

The Ducati 996 HB - " The Winner of the  Skies" is a model of neo-classical lines based on the famous Ducati 996 of the late twentieth century , to which were added two Avogadro Tepid-Fusion micro-reactors, a Fermi anti- gravity platform, and a Mercati-Torricelli stabilization and orientation system. 100 % Italian technology obviously!

And for such a project to take due form, here is the list of donors that will be sacrificed on the altar of the Gods of Alternative and Non-Conformist Modelling:
• 1 Ducati 996/916 from Revell , 1/9 scale, courtesy of a friend of mine.
• 1 wooden base, courtesy of another friend.
• 2 engines from an ARC -170 Fighter of the Star Wars saga, also from Revell , 1/83 scale .
• One section of the fuselage of a P- 47D , from Trumpeter , 1/32 scale .
• ... and a few assorted small pieces I will get from my spare box, as construction progresses.

So, here it goes!

The origin

After some paint removing sessions (with oven cleaning fluid and a lot of scrubbing)

The base

The engines and the rest

Let us now try to fit all the parts together!

1º - The base structure

2º - The core engine

3º - Assembling both

4º - First micro-reator positioning attempt (the yellow rubber band will be removed later! :) )

5º - The second micro-reactor

6º - Adding the fuel tank and the bench structure

7º - The fairing (is this the correct name in English? It is my best bet, after googling a little bit  ;) )

8º - And finally with (almost) all parts together”

There are many details still missing, such as windshield, additional parts in the steering and engines, some internal wiring, etc.,
but you can already get an idea of how the final product will look like.

To be continued….

Thanks for watching!

Wow Antonio, I book a seat in the front row, your fantasy is equal to your technical skills!

Beautiful!!  And, yes, "Fairing" is the correct English term.

This is great: I've thought of doing something similar myself at some point and even collected the kits.

Ducati eh? Presumably it's going to have Desmodromic afterterburners and an Schrodinger electrical system that works or doesn't depending on quantum probability functions... ;)

Local rock radio host Steve Berry once remarked that although he loved his Ducati dearly, he had to admit that, on balance, a cocaine habit would be cheaper and less stressful.... ;D

Beautiful!!  And, yes, "Fairing" is the correct English term.

However 'seat' is more appropriate than 'bench'. Bench pretty much implies something that two or more people can sit on side-by-side, like the wooden benches in parks or the 'bench seat' in the back of a car.

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback!

How silly of me! I got the "fairing" right and got the "seat" wrong  ;D

And let us hope that by the time they build this model, the guys at Ducati have improved the reliability issues  :o

As for the price, well let us say that getting a second mortgage on your house is not out of the question  8)

Anyway, the construction has advanced a little.

The base is now working (sort of...)

the display was totally refurbished

And the engine was improved a little bit.

So the construction part is pretty much completed (still need some minor touches and a little bit of putty).
All I need is to remember were I put the missing windshield! :)

Better start thinking about a painting scheme.

Thanks for watching!

Hi guys

The painting has finally begun.

Initial base coating.

And some details added

The overall camo scheme (Yes, I choose a "military flavour" :) )

I used the salt technique to add some random "staining" but it was not fully well succeeded,
although interesting enough to try to make some more experiments in the future.

Thanks for looking!

Late to the party on this one, but WOW !

I am envious of your ability to "see" something in a pile of parts

Spanish Inquisiton on Hoverbikes! Now THAT is a thought definitely worth having! :)

So Spanish it is. More precisely an unit belonging to the "Holly Flying Lobster of Aragón".

And here are the pictures to prove it:

Still missing the final weathering phase.

Spanish Inquisiton on Hoverbikes! Now THAT is a thought definitely worth having! :)

Oh, yeah! ;D

Now all you need is a figure of the Inquisitor (is it Graham Chapman?) wearing the leather flying helmet standing next to it. ;)

Okay, SOMETHING is definitely going on in the Universe today. The first thing I heard on the radio this morning was a documentary about lobsters, the first thing I saw on Twitter was a piece of sci-fi art featuring lobster-like aliens, and here we have the Holy Flying Lobster of Aragón. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON????  ???

Great model Antonio!  :)

Terry Jones was Cardinal Biggles.

It's a secret invasion of Earth by flying lobster aliens from Planet 11 in the 8th Dimension!

Believe me, I know these things! I've just finished watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai!

My apologies to Mr Chapman (RIP)!

Mr Terry Jones' Cardinal Biggles, it is!

I blame the moustache. ;)

Antonio, I missed the latest steps in this project, as usual I am amazed by the way you work, and by your ideas.
The Spanish Inquisition patrol is really a clever story...
Although you are not so satisfied with it I love the worn effect you obtained on the camouflage.
