Title: Vought F6U Pirate
Post by: ChernayaAkula on July 10, 2013, 07:38:13 AM
A thread for your Vought F6U Pirate whifs.

First up is Dizzyfugu's Argentinian F6U-1 Pirate, built from the 1/72 Admiral/AZ Model kit. Click HERE (http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,37320.0.html) for more pics and background info.

And now for something completely different. Here's one with a canard layout:

The (appallingly bad) background story (which came after finishing the profile):
Vought based this carrier-borne fighter on a German WWII design (only a wind tunnel model), the Me 263. A suitably modernized replica of the Me 263 was later used in the (appallingly bad) film Aces: Iron Eagle III.
 :-X  ;D
When I had finished the profile, it kinda reminded me of Scaled Composites' ARES, which was used in the film to star as a German design from WWII. So there.  :P Looking at it now, it's actually much more of a jet-propelled BAe SABA.

Moritz!  Your plan view of the Vought Pirate with the canards looks absolutely wicked :)
