You know what they say. Some days you get lucky...

...and other days you get a Minicraft 707.

I started this project three weeks ago and after countless sessions of PSR, the nose is still a rhinoplasty nightmare. Anyway this project stalled out, so I'm posting it here hoping I'll get motivated again.

Originally, I was going to use these caps from cigarillo tubes as forward-facing engine nacelles, but the plastic was incompatible with any known adhesive. So I came up with the idea of making pusher engines from drinking straws:

Here's the whole thing so far. Ugly as sin and still needs more PSR:

But at least I've got some nice Aeroclub metal props and cool decals which should help.

And before anyone says "Well, it could be worse...", I've got five more of these kits in the stash.

And that Minicraft 707 was exactly the kit I used as basis for a number of flying wings, along with some 777's and connies , DC4's and a few 377's. Found a box of assorted kits from this maker at a dealers swap table marked at 1$ each with the writing "May be missing decals or transparencies" and still in shrinkwrap. Was basically limited in purchase only by my strength.

Cool concept though! And a few more months of PSR will result in impressive-looking forearms by the time you're to hit the beaches :)

We must have both hit the same Squadron sale!

Hey, why not grab the bull by the mountain oysters and get rid of the step in front of the windshield altogether? Just make it one smooth curve like the underside of the nose.

Take that 707 and make a Boeing Ekranoplan out of it. Get some broad wing stubs from a larger scale kit of anything, Hoist the jets to the position up front and behind the pilots office, use the 707 wings to make the bigger tail.

I know it's been a while, but I finally got this project finished! While it's no prize-winner, I learned a lot about the peculiarities of the 1/144 Minicraft 707 which should help me with the other five of these I have in the kit stash.

Decals are the 1/144 Minicraft Delta DC-8 set by Cartograph which will curl if you're not careful. The props are white metal courtesy of AeroClub and the engine nacelles were made from drinking straws, drop-tank tips and wheels.

I always imagine that something awful happened and Boeing couldn't get working jet engines and had to do something to sell all those 707 orders. I call this the 707P - P for Pusher.

Yes I know, the maintenance crew at this airport is slacking badly, especially on runway BdaB. I should make a 1/144 scale guy with a lawnmower...

Looks great, Brian! The livery looks good and I like the white fuselage and silver wings.
It's funny that you got rid of the jets - they are the least annoying parts of that kit (but not by much).
