1/72 DML Do 335 - design flaw?
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:19:34 AM »
Folks:

I am building a Do 335 which I hope to have done for the April GB.

It is my first 335 ( with a few more in the stash) but I find it an overly complex model. The engines, cockpit etc. have too many components which I now read DML is known for.

Enough drivel. After closing up the fuselage halves, I found I now have a 2-3mm gap between the instrument panel and the fuselage just in front of it. Everything else seem to line up.

I was able to shim in a shroud using .020 sheet. Is the gap a design flaw or did I screw up?  :-\

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

The Do 335 instrument panel was set aft of the cowl, without a shroud, you can see the back of the panel on the real aircraft:

Nice find. I don't feel so dumb now.

But I noticed now that DML missed the bulges for the rear view mirrors.

I must admit though that I always found the canopy of the Do-335 to be an anachronism.  It is perhaps the one aspect I don't like.
