US Forest Service V-22 Osprey
« on: April 08, 2024, 04:28:00 AM »
Gonna jump in here and see if I can manage to moderate the group and build an entry at the same time.

Kit is the Testors boxing of the Italeri kit (in 1/48)
Decals are Draw Decals USFS Firewatch Cobra (in 1/32)

Not sure if it'll be a firebomber or for insertion/extraction of Smokejumpers/Firefighters.  Guess we'll see where the muses take this.

Great idea.

Previously I have done the CDF Bronco, so this makes sense.

I have the Draw Decals Firewatch Cobra decals but in 1/72 and maybe this GB would be a good use for them somewhere
The harder bit is finding an Aircraft they have not already used. ;)

This is a great idea. Include an IR turret for spotting fires through the smoke.
I’m looking forward to seeing this.

The later release of the V-22 Osprey by Italeri included some additional parts, one of which was the FLIR mounted under the nose and an IFR probe.

Found a couple of decent images of the MAFFS (modular airborne firefighting system) that I may use to cobble together a whiffery version for this project.

LJ: If the MAFFS II proves too big for the V-22, a more compact option might be the Coulson RDS. One variant of RDS has been tailored to the C295 fuselage ... the cargo hold of which is a little taller and quite a bit wider than the Osprey. Looking at the photo of the RDS installed in the C295, it does look like these tanks would slide into the V-22.

Fill that tank up with Napalm for forest overburden-reduction ? (that time of year here).
