Taiidan Foxbat
« on: February 02, 2012, 08:21:47 PM »

Built by somebody else "once a upon a time" and in a bad state, got it from Evilbay. 1/72 Hasegawa (?) MiG-25

I often buy built kits and then "refurb" them into Whiffs. Also for once I am fashionably early.  8)

New "Plastic  :icon_ninja: Origami" Fins

Sanded down, Seat and Console Removed along with Canopy (which will simply be painted black on the inside. Nothing to see here! Move along  :icon_swat: )

I would have left this but it was broken on the other side and the piece is long gone so I removed this side as well. Wingtip Missiles to come  >:D

Removed the stubs for the horizontal Stabs. Then I had an idea... Kind of a gamble but I decided to try it.

Tore the old engines off. and cut through these walls in the back

oops this was the only part that broke- though I did pop some seams, easy fix.

Interesting....very, very interesting.  The "plastic origami" fins have me wondering where this is going.

Cut a notch in some Sprue.

And fit it onto the intake. I could have just measuered and cut but I like using the excess as a handle, to position it easier.

Tada!

Cut off the handle and repeated for the other side. I did this So I have more surface to glue the Intake covers onto

Kinda looks like something Darth Vader would find himself flying. The Gloss coat is on, so tomorrow is decaling, and then Thursday weathering, and finished Friday! I put the wings on upside down because they are flatter that way which I feel blends them better with the flat sided fins. You can see the four light gray pieces I used to cover up the holes.

I planned on challenging myself by doing a Taiidan scheme with nothing but rattlebombs, but I didn't plan on it being this one!  :o The time crunch demanded it though, and so far, so good.  :icon_music:

Interesting  ;)
I like the look of it by far!
The GE nozzles also enhance it.
Good luck!

That "Rescue" decal is a disaster that silvered badly and NEVER settled no matter how much solution it tried. I ended up scraping it off, which I really think helped. I had a lot of decals jam packed on there and it looked like NASCAR!!

Tail fin meant to look like this:

With a VMFA-121 twist:

And finally:

FINISHED!!

Flat coated then lightly weathered with pastels.

Overall I give this a grade of about a C. I did OK but there are certain things I would like to do better  :icon_meditation:
