canard Twin-Vampire
« on: October 13, 2017, 12:38:51 AM »
A few minutes ago, I ordered 2 copies of Novo 1/72 DH-100 Vampire (at Unicraft models, cheap!).
My project is making a Twin-pod twin-jet double-plane with front booms and canard tailplanes (not to be burnt by jet exhaust).

You're going to have fun with the canard since it will need to be placed where the flow off it will not cause too much distortion in the engine intakes and where it will not block either pilot's vision too much.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's an aesthetically pleasing design in plan view but I'm too familiar with potential problems to totally ignore them.

There is no offense, dear engineer, your words are obviously wise. Well, I am not myself an engineer or commercial selling this design to the army, I enjoy being like a green student in the design bureau, inventing crazy things that the boss (you) would reject of course...
But you are right for another reason: I am going to change this design because the 2 tailplanes were not long enough to join (starting from external to the air intakes) and I had to add pixels, which is very difficult in plastic 3D. So I plan to change into an asymmetric design, with port tailplanes (canard and to the rear) and starboard good visibility. I will try.

Yesterday I got an E-mail:
'Hi Tophe,
your kits shipped today,
thanks,

"
I don't know when I will receive them but it may be soon now.

Or... maybe I could use all 4 booms... into a twin-plane with twin rocket engines (no more air intakes)...

WITHOUT GLUE ! I tried to see a little.
The normal Vampire would be this:

My son Jacky (8 years old) invented the push-pull Vampire! Turning or whirling or something, but fast!

Then Jacky invented the Vampire biplane:

And at last Jacky invented the tandem wing Vampire:

Now I will try my way, but maybe transformed a little because I feel lazy, maybe I will not truncate the wings.

Thanks for pics.  Interesting even though aircraft can't rotate much for takeoff & landing.  Keep building and posting.

this could be something like this (not rocket anymore but simply with turbojets):

I think this would work very well minus the canards.  If more elevator control is needed
then why not employ the 'all flying tail' approach?
I look forward to seeing this one on the flight line.    :-* 8)

I like this name Twampire, great!
The model is now finished...

while I hesitate before gluing the canopies.
I am not satisfied with these frames. Maybe I will paint all sky blue, to have black glazed parts and sky blue frames (I try to handle the subject even if I lack skills to make that good)...
