P-78 Pegasus, RAAF
« on: September 30, 2017, 10:48:28 AM »
This build was based on a picture I saw in this forum called the N.A. Stallion.
I used 3 P-51D kits (2 x Airfix and 1 X Academy)
The booms are are the Airfix kits sans cockpit and with the Radiator assembly moved to the outer fuselage aft of the the main wing.(I needed this space for the main gear which I took from an old Airfix P-38 kit)
The pod for the pilot is the cockpit section of the Academy kit with scratch built sections for the nose and aft section. This section also contains the nosewheel assembly which comprises a re-purposed P-51 Main Gear.
The wing between the pod section and the boom and the tailplane is also scratch built.
The tail was extended for and aft.The Engines are Griffon units taken from 2 Airfix Mk.22 Spitfire kits.

Checked! Yes, mine was very different, as P-82+P-38, I think I prefer your one. :-*

WOW, cool.  Very real world looking and great paint and markings.  Great work.
If I don't plan it, it can't go wrong!

If it's great, I did it. If it's naff, I found it.

That's just killer! A nice bonus are those cool SEAC markings!

Great stuff all the way!

Great idea! Picking up an OV-10ish vibe, and makes me think the P-78 would be a good COIN bird!

Where have I been,,,, just discovered P-78.  Really like this build, really do.
Combining three P-51 kits like this is kitbash creativity.  How many years (decades) have P-51 kits been in front of us and you saw the connection and built it.
Radiators on sides, 5-blade props and rest of it look fast.  So nice.......
