Some more inspiration - UGCV:

unmanned & afraid .....
a US state has legalised shooting down of drones.  In response to many of those cheap R/C drones with cameras attached by local geeks, govt has said that you can shoot down any that pose a threat to your privacy. :)

Uh, no. One small town in Colorado is considering the proposal, which was made to attract
attention to the issues surrounding drones and surveillance:

Very cool! Electric drive I wonder? Must be some complex gearing to get power to the wheels?

Either electric or hydraulic.  Mechanical, as you note would be rather complex, I think.

That is the Lockheed Martin Multifunction Utility/Logistics and Equipment (MULE) vehicle.  The MULE is a 2.5-ton Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) designed to be able to support dismounted and air assault operations. It consists of four major components:

1. Common Mobility Platform (CMP)

2. One of three Mission Equipment Packages:

Multifunctional Utility/Logistics and Equipment-Transport (MULE-T),
Multifunctional Utility/Logistics and Equipment-Counter Mine (MULE-CM)
Armed Robotic Vehicle-Assault Light (ARV-A-L) - the one in the picture above.

3. Centralized Controller (CC) for Dismounted operations
4. Autonomous Navigation System (ANS) mission payload package integrated on the MULE platforms and Manned Ground Vehicles (MGVs) to provide semiautonomous and leader-follower capability.

The XM1217 Transport MULE Vehicle (MULE-T) will carry 1,900-2,400 pounds of equipment and rucksacks for dismounted infantry squads with the mobility needed to follow squads in complex terrain.

The XM1218 Counter Mine MULE Vehicle (MULE-CM) will provide the capability to detect, mark and neutralize anti-tank mines by integrating a mine detection mission equipment package from the Ground Standoff Mine Detection System (GSTAMIDS) FCS (BCT) program.

The XM1219 ARV-A-L MULE Vehicle is a mobility platform with integrated weapons; an M240 7.62mm machinegun, four Javelin guided antitank missiles, and reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (RSTA) package to support the dismounted infantry’s efforts to locate and destroy enemy platforms and positions.

The wheels have electric motors in each wheel as explained in the video below:

Northstar (http://northstarmodels.com/product/arv-al-xm1219-armed-robotic-vehicle-resin-kit/) also do a model of it.

In the video above...does the real thing look like its been artificially 'weathered'? To me, it looks like an AFV modeller painted it. Unusual for trade show examples as they are typically pristine.

True...but I think in this case they either rushed it from testing to the show or wanted to give the impression it was closer to reality than it was.

They don't get much more basic than this: Milrem THeMIS

It is powered by a diesel generator in one of the track housing sections, and a Li-Ion battery pack with grapheme ultra capacitors inside the other track. This allows eight hour endurance from the generator and five from the battery. It can travel at up to 35kms/hr.

I keep thinking of the police robot, Prowler, from the Chuck Norris movie Code of Silence.

Well, there was that bomb disposal robot the Dallas police sent in with a pound of C4 to take out the sniper on 7/7.

Anyone notice the similarities...

Maybe the above shown GDLS Multi-Utility Tactical Transport (MUTT) should be renamed T-0.5

BTW, here is a video of it operating (it also shows the Polaris Defence RV-M as well as some other UGVs):
