RoT Navy fighter Jackalope
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:47:12 PM »
So one day about 3 years I was just eyeballin the stash and thought that I really needed to do something with a FW 190 D9. Such a cool fuselage shape. Just so happened the FW was stacked on a Spitfire :-* That's basically how it happened. At some point I decided she needed a higher canopy to see over the long nose so a 'Stang canopy was fitted. The landing gear configuration was changed to tricycle and canards were added to improve carrier performance. I tilted the horizontal stabilizers up to further clear the deck upon catching the wire. (Also it looked cool.) I also found that drooped wingtips would improve takeoff and landing so I added that.
Then I made the mistake of painting it and hated the scheme so I put her down and never picked her back up... til now.  She'll get some new colors and decals and take her rightful place among the Texas navy.
I lost the original canopy I had fitted so had to replace it.

Tophe I believe the canards are the tips of 1/72 Stuka wings.
