"Buzz" Aldrin on the moon - 1/32 - PLA 3D printing
« on: March 18, 2020, 04:30:35 PM »
Hi guys

It's been a while, but lately life has not been easy, as you perfectly know :(

Anyway, a friend of mine offered me a 1/32 3D print of an Apollo mission astronaut, and here it is!

It all started during a coffee break...

With some initial primer, to spot the imperfections...

I tried several techniques to smooth out the 3D artifacts (some sanding, some putty, some gloss varnish)

And finally it was time for the painting...

And the final comparison, with a little post-production on the helmet screen to make things more interesting :)

Thanks for watching, and, above all,  stay safe!

Excellent work, Antonio - especially at this scale and with PLA.

If your friend can print with ABS, you can smooth out most of the printing artifacts with Acetone. Plus you can use standard styrene glues (or Acetone) to glue parts together.

Thank you guys for your nice words!

Printing with ABS requires some room temperature stability, and my friend is preparing his printer to deal with that.
I am waiting for that to happen :)

It's a treat to see you posting Antonio and I like your astronaut, especially the gold face plate.

Reminds me of an old joke: Shouldn't they call hemorrhoids astronauts instead?
