LaFerarri - a great time waster
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:29:40 PM »
Greetings everyone

This is my in-between project build - the new Tamiya LaFerrari

Whilst waiting for my pink LED's to turn up (which arrived yesterday- great timing) I decided to build this brand new kit from Tamiya

Most of the build was straight forward , but there are some very complex sections like the door mechanism - which I cracked the sh*ts with and glued them to the frame. Who needs opening doors anyway?

All of these issues came as quite a surprise to me given it's a Tamiya kit, but I'm not too phased by it - it's still a great looking machine

Anyway, enough words, time for pics. I have fixed up a few issues since taking these pics - and it was because of these pics that I picked them up. Sorry.

As you can see below - awful fit issues:

I forgot to pick up the hood braces, so a garden stick had to do the job:

Another thing I didn't like was the whole using a decal over clear plates as mesh for the rear end. Looks crap. Would rather a PE part, but they weren't available at the shop where I bought it. Never mind.

The car was painted using Tamiya TS8 (Italian Red) decanted from a rattle can and airbrushed on. It's supposed to be TS86 but I couldn't find it anywhere surprisingly. I like the color it's in now anyways.

Engine was sprayed using Alclad

Well, I 'm off to continue with the Space Carrier, but this was a good fill in while I waited for parts

I am positive a better modeller will make a hell of better job than I did on this kit.

See you soon

Wow if I didn't know it was a model, I could easily mistake those pics for something from a Ferrari ad!

The finish is pure eye-candy!

I too have heard that the kit isn't up to Tamiya's usual standards, so you've done a good job getting it to look that good, nice one.

Sadly I really don't like the real car, it looks like a Transfromer  that hasn't quite transformed back to its vehicle mode to my eyes.

Give me a GTO or a 250 LM any day. :)

Hey thanks very much guys - greatly appreciated. I should mention the things I do like about this kit.

1) the press to fit windshield and rear engine cowling windows - great id and no problems with glue seepage
2) .......nah, I got nothing. It was an OK kit, but really down on Tamiya's usual engineering greatness

Clearly not much you cannot turn your hand too.. but a car!!!!! Egads !!!!

LOL - yeah, I also have ships, a train and jets (including an A330-300) in my collection of kits to build. After I have done the Darold, I'm going to undertake Trumpeter's 1/35 BR-52. I've never built a train before, so it'll be interesting... :-\

Shes a beauty ............  :-*

On some of the issues - it's odd cost savings things like the decal grill and poor door hinges (surely white metal could be supplied?) that often let Tamiya down from being truely great.

Looking at the quality of the Alclad finish makes me want an airbrush so I can try it!

cheers
