I have, he didn't reply. I typically will let someone who really displays good or better works there on the existence of BTS, and "The other forum", as well as Deviant Art's own what-if group called "Whifcraft".

I can only see the back 3/4 of the plane because of browser frames on my smart phone, but that's probably an advantage in this case. Looks like an Su-22 to me.

Cheers,

Aww, cool.  Looks like an F-14-style nose.  The whole thing looks F-105-inspired.  Very cool.

Cheers,

Logan

That's very nice indeed. The only nit you could pick is the lack of intake splitter plates, and that'd be easy enough to fix.

Since F-105 kits mould the intakes as part of the wing, you could simply graft su-22 wings onto the Thud fuselage, then add the intakes of your choice and blend them in. They look Skyhawk-ish, but those would be way too small, unless you were willing to sacrifice a 1/48th Scooter for a 1/72nd model. Viggen ones would be around the right size for the engine, and old Airfix Viggens are cheap and easy to get.

That was quick - nice one!

Yes, I though about blending the Su-22 swing-wing with the Thud's Ferri intakes. It certainly looks cool, but I'm not sure it would be possible, given the size of the spars connecting the pivot points to the fuselage: routing the intake ducting though one while keeping it strong enough would make the wing section unfeasibly thick.

You'd have to place the inlets far enough ahead of the wings to allow the ducting to sweep into the fuselage and the main intake where the spars would mate with major fuselage frames to carry the loads.  It wouldn't be impossible, but it would take some arranging.  The intake ducts do sweep in fairly quickly with the aux. inlets to the ducts being on the inboard wall of the main gear wells (until they got some variable blanking plates over those, the F-105 had problems getting the gear down on landing).

Quick? Nah, the profiles were done sometime last year.  ;)

You raise some interesting points regarding the intakes.  :) I didn't put too much thought into the internals when I bashed the profiles. Just went for the looks. I do remember though that I had to place a "spacer" between Thud fuselage and Fitter wings due to some alignment problems in the original profiles. That spacer adds about a foot of wing span per side between fuselage and wing pivot point.

Here's a section of a Su-22 wing cutaway:

I reckon 188, 147 and 148 are the main spars, with 203 a secondary spar. With the wing further outboard (more internal space in the fixed section) and the intake on the actual Thud sweeping in as elmayerle describes, it might just work. I guess the intake in the whif profile would go through where the 30mm cannons on the actual Fitter are (just ahead of the spar 203).
Cheers,
Moritz

This Spanish blog site by Pablo J. Álvarez has some nice whifs - some you will recognize from other forums.  Last time I went there (a few years ago) it only had drawings like the top logo.

Caution -- navigation around the pages is quite weird with different photos of a particular model scattered around various pages & others only shown in the link pictures.

Well, since no-one else has offered up any suggestions, here is the answer:  It's a Polish Air Force Su-22UM mated to a fattened-up F-4 Phantom radome, A-4 Skyhawk side intakes and the IRST/FLIR of a SAAB J35J Draken.  Was done by an Artist called Dr.Snufflebug.

Why I didnt noticed this before? It's marvelous! I need to use it somewhere in future in profiling. Maybe using Su-20 as a base.

Diggin' the MiG-29UBS!  :-*  The usual UB has no radar and I wonder whether you could fit a Gripen's radar in the UB's nose if you wanted to?

A friend on Facebook pointed me toward this, an artist who crafts motorcycles out of old watch parts:
