Title: The Asthma Inhaler Project
Post by: ed s on December 03, 2018, 04:36:01 AM
Am going to give this GB a shot. Here is what I am starting with. An old asthma inhaler. Actually I'll use at least two becauatse there will be some cutting and pasting as I go along.

(http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/esveum/20181202_111630_zpsf2vufnqv.jpg) (http://s213.photobucket.com/user/esveum/media/20181202_111630_zpsf2vufnqv.jpg.html)

And once you remove the cover and pull the sides apart, this is what you get.

(http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/esveum/20181202_111653_zpsm4yup4qn.jpg) (http://s213.photobucket.com/user/esveum/media/20181202_111653_zpsm4yup4qn.jpg.html)

Then pull out the guts that you don't need.

Cut and paste time. I cut out a section of one body and replaced it with a section cut from a different body. The idea was to make one fully round body with out the finger holds. The photo shows one piece marked with the part to cut off with the finger holds. The other shows the new piece glued in place. The cut job wasn't so good so it's PSR time.

Not sure. But MEK works as solvent to glue styrene to it.

Just so you know how crazy I've gotten. Here are a few more of the items to be incorporated into this project.

(https://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc250/esveum/20181205_205713_zpsgpwxj7gn.jpg) (https://s213.photobucket.com/user/esveum/media/20181205_205713_zpsgpwxj7gn.jpg.html)

These include some cheap throwaway razors, a Plastruct cylinder, an old clear Legg's panty hose egg, some small easter eggs, a couple empty sewing thread spools, some Kinder Egg inner containers and an old Monogram space shuttle.

WAG - Could be spaceship to Mars with Monogram space shuttle that lands on Mars base runway.  Something along that line.

This one looks like a lot of fun. Will enjoy seeing where it goes!

Yes, this did expand significantly after I started. I originally thought a simple flying saucer would be fine. But then inspiration hit me (with a 2x4) and things changed significantly. So this is a real "seat of the pants" build. Usually on my WHIFF and SCI FI projects, I do lots of preliminary sketches and then detailed drawings. This is strictly putting parts together based on a fleeting mental image and see what fits and looks good. It should be fun.

In case anyone was wondering, I have found some time to work on this through the holiday season. Here is a teaser. This is a small squadron of scratchbuilt shuttlecraft that go with the main vehicle. They were made from some 1/72 and 1/48 bombs and fuel tanks. The scale is 1/700

The tanks on the left look like Soyuz orbiters in their shrouds. Where did the winged missiles on the right come from? They look verrry interesting.

The winged shuttles were formerly 1/48 fuel tanks (from an old Mig 15 or 17). The wings are 1/144 F-16 vertical tail surfaces.

This is the Roald Amundsen, CR 207. Solar Federation Navy Interstellar Science Vessel, Explorer Class. It is docked at Jupiter Station prior to it's first mission. Powered by 4 GE/RR NPCR-43 fusion powered ion drives engines, it is capable of sustained thrust at .20g. With the newly developed Hyperjump system, it is one of the first ships capable of interstellar missions. Designed for multiyear missions, it is fully self contained with research facilities, manufacturing and repair, food production, etc. A number of shuttles are part of it's complement. These provide couriers, supply, exploration, and other missions. There is one large SM-34t fully equipped laboratory and exploration shuttle capable of atmospheric missions to planets of up to 1.75 Earth gravity. A there also two courier shuttles capable of atmospheric missions. Twelve BL-234 cargo pods are attached externally. Loaded with consumable supplies, these can be turned into manned laboratories orbiting planets of interest.
