Title: FAR Resin Is now out of business
Post by: LemonJello on March 06, 2018, 08:55:34 PM
Stumbled across this while perusing the interwebz.

https://farresin.com/ (https://farresin.com/)

Proprietor currently has a small inventory, but it's exclusively WhIf material - weapons and pods to hang on your projects.

There is also a conversion set to make the RoKAF T-50 (Academy kit) into an F/A-50.

Over on ARC, a forward swept wing conversion for the T-50 is also discussed.

Some interesting stuff there.  The FA-50 conversion would also be useful to make a T-50A (strong candidate to replace the T-38 in USAF service):

I am also loving their proposed FSW F-CK-1 conversion:

By the way, the "Proprietor" is Steven (aka FAR148) who is a member here already.

Oh yes you do. Just ask Monty.

I am already pondering if the FSW F-CK-1 conversion could be adapted to an F-16. Or F/A-18. For...reasons.

FAR148 joined us here at BTS back in April 2016.  :)

Will you be doing any stores pylons for the TSR.2?  Something that is not in abundance in the kit or as aftermarket items in the preferred scale of 1:48.

Interesting work Steven  :D

About the TSR.2, I see that you made a new nose. Will it keep the original shape (w/ some improvement I guess) or is it a new shape one ? I have a Dynavector which is looking for a new nose  :-[

F/A-50 seems also to be really interesting  :-* (will have to find a 3rd kit now  :P)

A set of weapon pylons will be available in each set as well as sold separately.

Good to hear that the stores pylons will be available separately.  I have two of the Airfix kits that are in need of these items.

Hmmm...the F/A-50 might also be the basis for a carrier based version with folding wing tips.

I actually have two fictional nose cones in the works.
Steven
Great news, can't wait to see them.

I'm either getting a F-CK-1C just to put this conversion on it, or I'll attempt to adapt the conversion to another plane; but I'm saving my pennies for this conversion.

Hello Steven,

Your TSR.2 set looks gorgeous  :-*

Do you other variants of this set in plan ?
I see that the set is based on the Airfix kit, do you think that it will be OK for a Dynavector one too ?
Do you have photo with the longer nose cone you offer in the set ?
Last question, do you have any idea for shipping cost to France ?

Thanks in advance for your reply  :D

Damien

Thanks for the reply Steven

Shipping cost are a little expensive but now that I know you are from USA, I'm not surprised... It is always expensive to order in USA from France :icon_crap:
The longer nose looks really good on the aircraft, thanks for the pic. I will have to check about the difference between Airfix & Dynavector but as far as I remember, the front fuselage is narrower on the Airfix.

Yes, I have plans for an EF-TSR.2 that includes a new tail with the "football", belly canoe, an AGM-78 Standard MKII with launch rail and a USAF type air-to-air refueling receptacle. All the master parts are done, wait to see how sells go with GR.4 set before I start molding and casting.

Are you able to share photos of the master parts?  Very interested in this one as I plan to do a Italian EF-TSR.2 in this scheme:

Seeing your JP233 makes me wish I had never purchased all of those horrible Airfix Tornado kits just for the weapons.

I hope that you find the time to focus on possible upgrades to the 1/48th scale HobbyBoss F-23 kit as it really needs some attention,  Wing pylons for fuel and weapons are a high on my wish list.

I'm curious, what items would you guys like to see me offer in 1/48 scale?

Oh, the possibilities....

Are you able to provide any sort of boundaries/restrictions?  For instance, size limitations, types of product?  Era?

Well, I, for one, would like to see some AGM-137A TSSAM missiles as stores.  I can advise on how to tweak the available drawing to show the "carry" configuration as opposed to the "flying" configuration of the 3-view.  I also can advise on what and where to modify for an extended range version that was studied for a proposal to the RAF.

A second item I'd love to see was the Northrop-Ventura ND-1 proposal for an integral rocket-ramjet powered submunitions dispenser that could be conformally carried on even a F-3E/F-20 class aircraft.

One item that would, IMHO, be interesting would be an AIM-54X Phoenix-ER missile in which the solid rocket motor is replaced by an integral rocket-ramjet motor with four intakes at the leading edges of the fins, somewhat in the Russian style used on the Kh-31. Alternatively, a different Phoenix ER with a booster stage added.  Or, combine the two for a Phoenix-XLR with both the booster stage and the integral rocket-ramjet motor.

For people who want a different-looking AAM, an AIM-162 air-launched version of the main stage of the RIM-162 ESSM.

Going back a ways, how about a 1/48 AAM-N-10 Eagle

Final thought would be operational variants of the Vought ALVRJ test vehicle, either for ASM or AAM purposes.

One I would love to see would be a conversion to do a Westland Wyvern TF.1 with the original RR Eagle engine:

Also, just a simple Mistel Conversion nose & support struts (thus saving the purchase of entire kits):

One can get these in 1/72 and 1/32 but I don't believe there is anything in 1/48 that doesn't require the purchase of a full kit with the aircraft.

The hsiung feng III from Taiwan looks very similar.
Definitely a resemblance.  Be interesting to see an air-launched variant of the Hsiung Feng III carried under a F-CK-1C or -1D; more likely a pair, one under each wing.

A couple more suggestions in 1/48:

Conversion to do a 1/48 Panavia Tornado 2000:

Conversion to do a 1/48 MiG-21-93 or MiG-21 "Bison":

Conversion to do a 1/48 Mirage F1-M53/F1E - in other words, the slightly stretched SNECMA M53 powered version that was offered to the Europeans in the '70s in competition to the F-16:

F-16-79 with GE J-79 engine:

1:48th scale AGM-69 SRAM and AGM-131 SRAM-II would be nice to see.  While the Revell B-One does include blobs of plastic with an AGM-69 SRAM shape they are far from ideal thanks to the trench-sized seams and very chunky control fins.  Both subjects would be a nice addition for what-if and all of those poor souls that own the Revell B-One kit.

I'm curious, what items would you guys like to see me offer in 1/48 scale? If there are multiple require for the same item, I will see what I can. But if it is a bunch of one off items, forget it.  Please no 1/72 scale.

Speaking of conformal fuel tanks, what about a set to allow one to model the Typhoon with these:

And/or perhaps the F-4 proposed one:

Steven, the guy behind FAR Resin contacted us (GTX and the moderators) via PM to inform us that FAR Resin has ceased doing business effective immediately.

No further information was provided as to what or why this has happened.  So until further notice, this topic is now closed.

- Jeff, just as much in the dark as the rest of you. :(
