Title: Beyond '46 Inspiration Thread
Post by: ysi_maniac on April 27, 2013, 05:42:41 PM
WWII going Cold (not so cold in this GB) War.

Neutral countries (Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, ...) going contenders.

IS-3, Patton tanks, ...

Early jets all around

Amerika bombers ...

V-2, V-3, ...

So many things :-* :-* :-*

The image that first came into my head was of B-44s armed with X-9 Shrikes escorted by F-87s.  :-*

I've been posting some of my existing stuff at http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2970.15 (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=2970.15)
Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Norway and Sweden are already in the fight there... but that also involves a pretty drastic deviation from real-life history. Some of the aircraft types are a bit non-standard.
If you find inspiration there, run with it  ;D

If you want a different sort of Beyond '46 inspiration, may I suggest you read this novel:

Think NAZI Germany meets Post Invasion Iraq from the 21st century...

Turtledove is always a good read -  ( and staggeringly prolific )

Expect snapshots of High Weirdness from the Secret World War, featuring Nazi Flying Sorcerers ( and Saucers ) Soviet Gorilla men, Apocolyptic Antarctic Action, and the Science Warrior appearing in New York.

I've started the kit some time ago but Life-Requirements will preclude entering this GB so if there's anyone who wants to run with the theme, please feel free to do so:

PR Prototype of the Gloster Meteor using the F.3 version, circa 1946-47 and then used for quite some time forward.
Tamiya kit:
Guns removed and the ports shaved/filled
Rather than use the nose-based camera system that was adopted, two pod systems to be utilized underwing.   Both would have forward facing capability and, obviously, then the coordinating lateral ports would be present.   Belly fuel tank.
Overall Speed Silver but  with either that lovely mid-blue the British used on the Lightning or that Bright green/Yellow of No.3 Squadron use as Squadron ID.     My plan, once I can return to modeling, is to use Floquil's Old Silver.

Have at it if ye'wish.   :)

Proposal for alternative history. Not far fetched in my opinion.

Germans surrender to Allies, Germany is quickly occupied by US and Brits and they begin to fight against Soviet Union. But meanwhile in the other side of the world Japs surrender to Soviet Union, soviet troops invade Japan and the war continues for 6 years more.

Those earlier builds by nils got the Luft 46 touch for sure.
Like them all with green & OD twin jet and twin FW190 fuselage (looks fast) builds are particular favorites.  :)

Brian's work is always top notch!

Here are a couple of Luft '46 planes that I made:

Revell Ar.555:

It has a Fritz X under the fuselage and two Hs 293s

Special Hobby FW 1000x1000x1000:

The canopy was redone. I didn't like/didn't want to mask all the framing on the original design. I added the rear warning antenna and the inaccurate gun pack from the DML Ar 234N.

Here's an RS Ki-201:

I've seen the 38t Morsertrager up-close-&-personal at a SAPMA Expo a couple or 3 years ago.

It's a beautiful build (like all of B's work) & it's so plausible I'd be surprised if many "experts" were not convinced it existed.

Cheers, B, thanks for the pic's!

This time something much smaller but still intriguing - Jeep Willys on Firestone Cylindrical tires:

(well I'm not sure if this qualifies to the GB - it was still created and tested during WWII)

Object 279 I'm passing-familiar with. The jeep looks like a toy with those tyres.

Title: Re: Beyond '46 Inspiration Thread
Post by: father ennis on June 07, 2013, 11:46:19 AM
The fact is the FT-17 was still in use by the Germans. It was one of a number of French and other types that were used for airfield defense and anti-partasen work. Many of these were found in France and the Italian's used their version as static defenses as well. We think of the King Tigers and Panthers but there were lots of Polish tankettes used to pull all sorts of advanced weapons. RPM and Mirage make a number of interesting kits. In fact, this is an area which gets far too little interest. Don't forget that the Germans used all sorts of captured equipment both modified and unmodified to free up their primary equipment for front line use.
