Hi all
Been away from group builds for a while and starting to get twitchy.
Hopefully I will finish this one on time.
Here's the starting kit ........

First impressions are not good. Some parts, particularly the propellor do not look right, but it will be OK for what I want to do with it.
The decals have particularly yellowed quite badly.

I won't be using them on this build. But there are some useful civilian markings there, perhaps a week in a sunny window might bring them back.
More when it happens ............

For their age, KP kits were usually very good. A bit heavy with the rivets (although they're tiny) and some of the their kit canopies are thick, but in general, their kits were surprisingly good builds.
For the decals, a week in a sunny window followed by a spray of a clear acrylic, just in case they decide to break apart.

Hi all
It turns out that Frank3k was absolutely on the button, despite its age the kit has gone together well. The fuselage and wing joints are not bad, but the wing/fuselage joint needed filler. (Pretty much like most of the Spitfires i have built ::))
The canopy fit was iffy and I had to give the seat a bit of a trim to get it to fit properly.
The story so far .......

As this going to be late forties time line I decided the Spitfire was going to deliver Dry Ice into the clouds and required some fancy canisters to disperse the ice. Here's progress so far....

I am looking to have distribution cannisters on three hard points but may have to ditch the centre section cannister if there isn't enough ground clearance.
Still haven't decided what colour to paint it ;D
Thanks for looking........

Yes, very much the business.
Plus you can play Kate Bush singing Cloudbusting in the background

Looking good!

Looking good!
Indeed!
If ground clearance issues prevent the use of a centre canister, what about substituting a slipper tank (or belly hooks for such a tank)?
-
What a stunningly simple idea ! and with the part ready made.
If the cannister doesn't work out I will adapt the slipper tank.
Thx for that

Glad you liked it 'Mog.
When I saw your CO₂ tank canisters, I immediately thought of those WW2 Spits with beer barrels under their wings and slipper tanks mounted :D
-
Man, I would have killed for those Air Police decals. Mine looked like the other set after a month in the south facing window.
-
Hi fellow male type Kim!
Not many of us about these days.
To be truthful if the decals hadn't been so bad I would have been severely tempted to build the police Spitfire straight out of the box.
After a week or so in the window they have faded a bit, the problem is I'm in the UK and sunny days are at a bit of a premium.
I'm still staying optimistic I can recover them. ::)

Hi
Found the police spitfire on a Draw Decals sheet here :- https://www.blackbirdmodels.co.uk/spitfire-niners-of-the-world-72-1388-p.asp (https://www.blackbirdmodels.co.uk/spitfire-niners-of-the-world-72-1388-p.asp)
At Blackbird Models , postage might be prohibitive

I thought I had seen every Spitfire decal sheet but wow, this is a nice one.

I am strongly tempted by the nice orange target tug ;)

Hi all
Shock Horror! :o I submitted to temptation and bought the decals, watch out for a nice orange spitfire in the near future ......... ;)
The cloudbuster Spitfire is in the paint shop at the moment, I've decided to go with a gloss White base colour.
It has had its first pass through the spray booth but due to a blockage or restriction (possibly caused by the AK interactive paints I had used previously) the finish is patchy and uneven, I'm pretty sure a second coat will do the trick. The cannisters are complete and ready for painting
I will publish some pics shortly

Hi all
The spitfire is out of the spray booth, the second coat went on successfully.

Mmmm shiny shiny :D
Working on the decals now and putting the finishing touches to the cannisters before painting.
Thanks for looking.........

Very smooth! 8) Good job!

Like concept and build progress. Please proceed

The Sprue holding jig is masterwork... great idea for a custom, somewhat disposable jig.
Oh... the Spitfire looks pretty nice as well ;)
-
Thanks guys..
Buzz :- since I've got into spraying I create a jig for each kit using the free byproduct of modelling. Because I have been building a few Spitfires just lately the " Spitfire Jig" has not gone back into recycling. Goodness knows what I'm going to do when I get round to building the Shackleton ;D ;D

Hi all
Commenced painting some of the detail stuff (rudder, anti dazzle panel/wheel wells) and treated it to a new quick boost propellor, the kit one just did not look right.

The original is on the left, Quickboost is on the right. The kit probably has more faults but this one just screamed at me ;D
